We are going to Hilton Head this summer and probably would get in late the night before. What are the places that you would stay just the night before check-in?

I have heard that it is hard to drive at night due to the roads are dark, or something like that, if you don't know where you are going. We have never been there and probably won't get there until 10pm.

Should we just get a place before we get on the island?

Thanks for any input you can provide!!!:D

We stay at the Fairfield Inn on Hilton Head (there is another one just before you get to the island). It is located right behind the Hilton Head Diner and a very short distance from the DVC resort.

Thanks a lot. I am thinking about bidding on priceline for a hotel and this will help a lot!!!

From NJ, depending on the time that you leave (the earlier, the better!) should take you around 12 hours. Since you are traveling in the summer there will be extra daylight. You should arrive well before nightfall.

As for other properties, I've stayed at the Hilton in Palmetto Dunes which was very nice.

Good luck in your planning.

You might not be able to get a place on the island itself. We are planning to stop in North Carolina (from northwest PA.) and get to the resort at 4pm.

thanks.

Here is the scoop. We never drove long distance anywhere after we have our kids. So I was never sure if we really want to do the drive to HH.

I saw Southwest has airfare from Philly to Raleigh Durham for $24 each way and could not resist booking with them. I was in such a rush to grab the tickets without knowing exactly where Raleigh is:eek:

Afterwards, I realized the travel time probably will be the same either by driving or flying (except paying extra for the tickets and rental car and all that) , it takes around 5 hours from Raleigh to HH. We picked an afternoon flight so we can get to the airport in time. So we probably won't get to HH until 10pm or so.

Not sure I would have bought the tickets if I knew how far Raleigh is to HH. NC, SC, they all seem so close to each other when you live in NYC:D

Live and learn!!!

don't arrive after dark.
The Island is a low light area.
A few years ago we had a complete tour of the Island after passing by the entrance.
Loved the golf, the beach for walks ,the shops.
Great place to visit Savanna and Charlestown.

lat,
If you decide you would rather drive after all, the beautiful thing about SWA is that you can cancel those tickets out and use the credit towards another trip like say Orlando and you don't have to pay any penalties or change fees.
Would this be your first visit to HHI?
