Where do you print your digital photos?

Took my first "digital" trip and love my photos. I'm just not sure of the best way to print them out. Do you print your own or use another place? Any advice appreciated.

Most tests suggest that it works out cheaper to get your photos printed by a minilab than to print them yourself, and you normally end up with better colour from a minilab too (there are always exceptions).

I normally have mine printed at Jessops (for important ones) or Tesco (for run-of-the-mill ones). If you're not from the UK then this is probably not of any use to you...

I've started using the online printing service from places like Wolf Camera, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, etc.

You can upload your pictures from home, then go pick up your prints at your convenience. You can also choose various print sizes that way, too, and is just really easy and convenient.

I use Wal-Mart for my 4x6s and 5x7s, they usually do a very good job. For larger sizes I use EZprints on-line The prints are good quality, resonably priced and usually get them to you in under a week.

I usually print my photos at Costco. It's mostly for the convenience factor since I really only print mine out to show relatives without the internet or to do blowups for something random.

Since I'm not a "photographer" the quality is okay for me to use as snapshots. My co-worker who is much more a photographer than me doesn't like the color authenticity he gets from them and I think uses someone online, I'm not sure who at the moment.

I use Costco for most prints as well. Upload the night b4 and pick up photos b4 picking the kids up at school(down the street).

And yes your co-worker can be right, IF costco is allowed to make AUTO-corrections the color can be way off. But I always turn off their auto-corrections and the prints are always EXACTLY what I send in.

Kinko's is pretty good. Simple and cheap.

If you want to go the home route, nothing beats an Epson printer for photo prints.

I print mine at home. Cost for a 4x6 is about 21 cents each. They last longer than traditional prints also. I can print them exactly the way I want. I love printing my own.

I used to get them printed at Wal-Mart but never again!
The price is 15 cents per 4 x 6 print and the clarity and colors are amazing plus I just download them onto the site, never having to leave my home! The price per print can go down to buy a subscription for your own gallery

I love Shutterfly.com and snapfish.com but I often get the little snap books of photos made rather than just single prints. I just got a mac and I'm anxious to try printing through mac.

Any place that uses the Fuji Frontier system. It wil actually "develop" your prints rather than print ink onto a piece of paper. Sams Club is the cheapest I have seen with the Fuji System. Walmart is a little higher, but the same system. Also, there are 2 main models of the Frontier system. The 370 (I think) and the 390. The difference is the paper width. one uses 8" wide paper and the other uses 10". If you get to know the person behind the counter, they will do custom sizes for you. 8x10 is the biggest they do standard, but with a 10" wide roll, they can do a 10x13 and it's beautiful.

Also, here's a tip. If your pictures are starting to really look good or you do portrait photography, get yourself some cheap business cards printed up. I have had many places tell me that they won't print my pictures because they say "These are professional pictures protected by copyright and it's against the law. I simply reply "thank you," and hand them a business card so they know I am the photographer. I haven't had a problem since doing that.

I print my own prints using a friends Noritsu digital printer. I can print anywhere from wallet size on up to 12x36 poster prints.

I'd try several different places depending on your area. I recently use WalGreens near me and got very good results. A friend used WalMart and they looked terrible. So it may just depend on the specific places near you. Give a few a try and compare results.

during rugby and soccer season, i average about 350-400 processed photos per week to print 4x6. i usually wait for Digital City or JB to have their 15 cent (australian) sale and print a few thousand at a time. if i am travelling to a field and need them printed with no sale on, i'll have them printed at Icon Imaging - which is the lab i use for all sizes other than 4x6. at big event days, we'll setup tables and print onsite with canon CP330 and CP510 printers and the cost is about 25 cents (australian) each.

DH bought me a mac earlier this year and we recently sent away for our first prints from Kodack Image gallery which is who apple has hooked up with for their printing. The 4x6 and 5x7 that we ordered came out fine, but we found the book we ordered to be lacking in print quality. Several of the pages are streaky and the pictures tended to print dark (even compared to a 4x6 we had printed of the same picture).

FYI, Shutterfly uses the Fuji Frontier system.. That's why they look good.
