Where do you go to eat..other then WDW?

When you drive through DTD and out to the Crossroads there are several places to eat there including fast food. If you make a left at that light onto 535 (instead of driving straight into the crossroads shopping center) we have picked up food from Macaroni Grill a couple of time and taken it back to the Fort with us! Yummy!

One of my favorites is on 192 East, just past Celebration, but before Old Town. Logans Roadhouse. Kid friendly, and great prime rib, steaks, etc.

My favorite restaurant on the planet is called "Salsa Taqueria and Tequila Bar". It's in the Florida Mall in Orlando. It has a very nice and modern bar, but it's just as much a restaurant and it has a large menu of Mexican food. If you like Mexican food, you will love this place. It is a MUST visit for us on every WDW trip. The food is great, the atmosphere is great. Really, if you want some excellent Mexican food that will make you dream of returning to Orlando so you can eat at this restuarant again, give it a try. I am dreaming of it now...

By the way, it's family friendly. We've eaten there with our kids, now aged 6 and 4, and it is not a bar atmosphere at all. It is a very modern and stylish restaurant, the staff is very friendly, and once again, the food is great, and reasonably priced.

my 3 year old enjoyed joes crab shack - lots of lights and things to look at and they have a playgroud area.

Yummy! We'll have to check this place out! But do they really have good Mexican food in FL?? I haven't found any good Mexican food here in Ga since we moved from Tx! :sad2:

Well, I have only had "real" Mexcian food in a "real" Mexican restaurant twice, once in Monterrey, Mexico and once at a family-owned Mexican restaurant in Chicago, so I'm not an "authentic" Mexican food expert. You've probably had more opportunity to have authentic Mexican food when you lived in Texas as compared to me here in Ontario, Canada. However, I do love Mexican food, and I have found that some Mexican restaurants are great, some are just good, and some are sort of "blah". I would definitely put the "Salsa Taqueria and Tequila Bar" in the "great" category. Everything is freshly made...no off-the-shelf tortillas.

Here is a description from their web site at e-brands.net : "SALSA, Taqueria and Tequila Bar is a casual and exciting Mexican dining concept featuring an authentic menu of delectable tacos, tamales, tostados and rellenos made with savory fire-roasted meats, grilled vegetables and the freshest seafood. Hand-made tortillas, refreshing salsas and fresh juice cocktails provide guests with an unforgettable "true taste of Mexico". A bustling exhibition kitchen adds to the excitement of the bold colors and lively Merengue, Salsa and Tejano music. The Tequila Bar features over 50 Mexican tequilas and mescals perfect for sipping or mixing with fresh juices for a Star Margarita with lime, mango, passion fruit, cactus or watermelon."

This restaurant is one-of-a-kind (i.e. not a chain), though its parent company does operate six other restaurants with very different names and probably somewhat different menus throughout the United States.

When you enter the restaurant, you will notice that it looks very modern, sort of "hip", with an attractive bar (I never sit at the bar, I like their booths, but the bar looks very nice).

My favorite dish at Salsa Taqueria and Tequila Bar is the beef burrito with cilantro rice and black beans. Their free chips and salsa are awesome, and go great with the Mexican cheese dish if you want a nice side. Ooohh - and don't forget to get a large order of guacamole. They have great guacamole. I almost feel like getting on a plane just to go there for lunch. And when my stomach is full at the end of the meal, I always wish that my stomach was three or four times its current size so I could just keep on eating and eating this restaurant's food. It is that good.

OK, look you already had me at 'salsa', now I'm drooling!! If they're using cilantro, then Toto you are not at taco bell any more! Fresh guacamole, yum! You've painted a tasty picture of the place, if I were ever to allow myself to be pulled from the WDW area, I'd definitely give it a try.

Do you ever make your own salsa? If you can buy some cilantro you can make pico de gallo by dicing some tomatoes and onion (I like to dice the onion very small), chop up some cilantro leaves into it, add salt and pepper. Do you have a super target or similar store? I've found some very nice and light tortilla chips at ours in the deli area, this combo is the closest I've come to Mexican restaurant chips and salsa. Well, thanks a lot! Now I'm hungry!

It's been a long time since I made my own salsa, as a couple of local grocery stores sell fresh salsa which I now buy. But your idea sounds like something I should try.

For something cheap, adequate and filling, we liked CiCi's Pizza. The one on Palm Parkway is closer and a bit cheaper than the one across from the Vistana. This one also has a mini-arcade in the back.

For around $5.00, you get all you can eat pizza buffet, drinks, salads, dessert. It wasn't gourmet pizza, but it wasn't bad, and good enough for the money.

Plus, the CiCi's on Palm Parkway is very accomodating!! They will custom make a pizza or a calzone for you ... all included in your $5.00 price! They also have some dessert pizzas that you'll want to save room for! Their cinnamon rolls are to die for! In addition to pizza, they have a salad bar (not big, but adequate) and sometimes have soup. DH & I always go to CiCi's when we're at the Fort! :thumbsup2

We also are starting to venture off Disney property for some dinners ... went to Joe's Crab Shack twice this past trip. We got the $19.99 King Crab Legs dinner and the waitress said they came from the same place as Fulton's ... but they charge twice as much!!!

I can somewhat handle the prices for the Disney food (it's expected), but when it comes to drinks --- HELLO, $4.50 for a small draft Bud Light is crazy!!!! At Joe's were were able to get some very nice mixed drinks for the same price.

We passed the Ale House on the way to Joe's ... we might have to try that when we go again next year.

I pulled up the menu to Orlando Ale house. OH my. Great prices and a great selection. How is the seafood? Is it fresh? What were your favorites?

Even though I didn't reply to each of you....I looked up every place you suggested, printed off the menu's and maps. I am really looking forward to going off site this year for a few cheaper and maybe better meals. This will be the first time because DH and I usually like to drink....therefore the Disney Transportation system is our DD . This year, we have our son with us and we probably wont drink as much.

Have you seen this map? I'm putting the link to the area of 192 that is west of World Drive so you can see what is in the area closest to the exit. If you scroll down to the bottom of of the map, you can click on the words at the end of the map and go to the next part that's east of World Drive. This is a handy web page to bookmark because it can be confusing looking for hotels and restaurants on that road, you can see the mile marker here just as you'd see it when you're driving:

Uh, oh, I just figured out where all the armadillers and peacocks are going, between mile markers 9 and and 10 you'll find Jeff Foxworthy's Backyard BBQ

ZINGERS!! (Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Breast). They are similar to the ones served at the ESPN Club, but cheaper & better.

I like their grilled tuna... 35 shrimp cooked your way (not mini-shrimp, either)... British Burger & their Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. They also have a mini-burger dish (4 burgers & fries) which is similar to the one at Ruby Tuesday's.

Joe's Crab Shack is actually a better choice for seafood, though - it's just down SR 535 about a block from the Ale House.

My goodness, I'm hungry now!!!

Debbie ♥

Oh yeah.... if you go on a Wednesday evening, they have a Maine Lobster Dinner for $14.95... 1 1/4lb lobster, choice of potato & one addition side. YUM!!! A little secret... if you go on Thursday, ask if they have any lobster left from Wednesday & if so, they'll do the same special... but ya gotta ask!!!
