Where do you get art for framing with pins?

I just framed my first pins, and they look great just by themselves (the Tink Portrait Series pins). But, there are many pins I would like to frame that would look terrific if I could find some appropriate art to use in the picture, just like that Dumbo picture that hopemax used with her pins.

My question is....where do you get the art that you use for framing? (Aside from maps that come with events, of course.)

Thanks!

For this pin set I framed I used a promotional flyer that I found before the movie came out.

The picture isn't as clear as I would have liked.

Post cards are nice if you want something small or the Gallery stores have note cards. They are usually reproductions of scenes from movies. A lot of clip art sites have pictures of places in the parks like Cinderella's Castle and Spaceship Earth at Epcot.

You can also get different ideas from looking at picture mats. I found this frame and mat for $10 at the Christmas Tree Shoppe. Nat (NH Mickey) had posted about finding a deal on frames there. I bought 2. :D

Would love to see your framed Tink Portrait set.

Hi Kathie,

That looks great! Now, I guess you just bought a regular frame rather than a shadowbox one, judging from the mat that is came with. What do you stick the pins in to mount them? If it's foam core, does everything fit in the frame okay and allow you to push the little metal thingies back onto the back? Or do you not use glass so that the pin has more room and can stick out the front?

Thanks for any help!!

I had my dad frame a pin and post card for me a couple of months ago. I bought a special cel that they make at the Gallery store at MGM on it's first release date (October 1, 2001), and got a post card autograhped by those artists that worked the project. It also came with a pin. We framed the pin & card together. I got some of those clear picture/photo corners that you can used in a scrap book (instead of gluing the item to the paper) and postioned the postcard. My dad then placed the pin below it. We used a different mat board that what came with the frame, so the pin went thru the board and peeks thru the back of the frame. It's not the kind of frame that stands up by itself - it is hung on the wall. This frame has enough room in it that the pin does not hit the glass, nor does the back scratch the wall.

I have seen frames that are similar to shadow boxes, in that the photo does not hit the glass, but rather is abotu 1/2 inch or so from it. These kind of frames would be perfect. I gathered a bunch of Disney patriotic pins to frame & my dad says he will make me a frame (long story). If you know someone who is into carpentry, you might try that route. Good Luck and have fun!

Thanks!! Glad you like it.

I did use a piece of packing foam but a very thin one. They all had those darn Mickey head backs so I replaced those with the Pin savers I bought on Dizneypins. They are really tiny and locked the pins in place without the pin backs. Pretty cool little gadgets.

The paper was just regular typing paper positioned so the seams didn't show. It was the only paper I could find that was that color.

It is a regular frame, not a shadow box and the pins do touch the glass. I placed the pins in the sections with the pin backs on and then took a picture when I got it so I was happy with the way they looked, so I would remember where they went....then I put them in place. The hardest thing was flipping it over so that the mat stayed where it was supposed to. On the pin with Tinker Bell sitting on the top....her wings come over the edges of her space. She was just too big for that space so I improvised. The Octopus' eyes were the same thing. Over the mat. Still it looked ok!

I just had to play with it to see what I liked and didn't like....of course I had many comments from the peanut gallery around here. When I got done they asked me how much I was selling it for.

Good luck and I'd love to see pictures.
