Where do you file Stuffed Peppers?

I'm surprised how many people still have written recipes that they file.

I've converted almost all of mine to digital. I obviously keep the nice ones for sentimental purposes but no recipe cards for me.

My system is a little redundant… I have them saved in Allrecipes app or pinned on Pinterest. That way when I’m shopping, I can use my phone to check and purchase ingredients. Once I’ve made the meal/dessert and decide it’s a keeper, I hand write it into my recipe file box (just a bunch of index cards).
The reason for this is because I hate touching my phone or iPad while I’m cooking. I prefer to have a paper copy to read while my hands are messy.

I consider them a main dish, so out of your categories, I'd go with casseroles.

But then again, my stuffed peppers are usually "leftover-users" and end up different every time.:rotfl2: I don't think I've ever actually written it down.

The recipe is for Frozen Stuffed Peppers. They are stuffed with meat, onion, rice, tomato, cheese and SOMETIMES, white beans (or whatever leftover beans might exist.)

In your recipe box, are they...

Meat?
There is ground beef (and sometimes ground pork, if there is leftover)

Vegetables?
They are peppers and have onion and tomato in there (and occasionally the meat is left out entirely, but not usually)

Casserole?
They are a mix of stuff, including rice, but not really a casserole, but they would be, sort-of, if they weren’t shoved into peppers

WHERE DO THEY BELONG? I don’t know what to do.

Where are your Stuffed Peppers????

Thank you for your support.
How do you like this overwhelming pepper response here, HR?

Hidey ho good neighbors! I did not expect a pepper debate (good natured though it was) and had rather thought that all would be united in their declaration of THIS CATEGORY, whatever that category might’ve been.

I admit to taking some comfort in the fact that opinions differ and it does present as a quandary!! I wasn’t sure that my indecision veered far into the side of sanity but feel validated that the group cannot settle itself so there is no clear line. Hurrah, la difference.

I agree with those who feel that green peppers - the traditional choice! - are too earthy to take in a mouthful. That is why these peppers are red and/or orange. The happy colors also create a more festive plate.

It is a bummer that posting pictures here is complicated as there is a picture that perfectly shows why I use a recipe box but picture posting is not to be. If I’m thought to be old-fashioned...I can live with that!!

I strongly lean toward Meat and think it should be there. Some very excellent points made! But the card has gone into Vegetables because occasionally the peppers contain no meat, some good points were made for that and truth be told, my vegetable section is lighter than it ought to be and could use the bulking-up.

What happens after there are more veggie recipes? Uncertain. It may relocate. Maybe not. The future’s not ours to see (que sera, sera - jaja.)

Reading this was fun.

Thankee!

I keep my recipes organized by meal and course, rather than ingredients, so it would go under Dinner --> Entree. And it would be in the "meat" subcategory because I only put vegetarian recipes in the "vegetable" subcategory of entrees.

Is lasagna a casserole? Those noodles aren't chopped up. How about casseroles with whole tortillas layers?

Those are obviously just very sloppy sandwiches. :rotfl2:

I've never tried turning stuffed peppers into a casserole, but making stuffed cabbage lasagna-style was a revelation. All the taste, none of the tedious rolling of cabbage leaves.

One year for Christmas, my husband bought me a lovely cookbook stand that is just right for my old Galaxy Tab, aka "the cookbook" (because you only need one when everything is digital), which solved the issue of having to touch my tech while cooking.

Vegetable - I look at it this way, baked ziti, lasagne, ravioli etc is all filed under Pasta…even though they includes tomato sauce, cheese, meat, and (esp. lasagne) are layered and cooked in a casserole type dish…

Still in shock that some people don't consider layered "hot dishes" casseroles. I googled "is lasagna a casserole" and found a few hits that said no, but most agreed with me that it fits the definition.

My recipe book has been built up over the years so they are printed recipes I put in a large notebook. Far more convenient when cooking/baking to have the page in front of me with an easy to read ingredient list and directions. I also sometimes adjust the quantities of certain ingredients or the directions, so it is very easy to make those notes on the printed copy. Storing them online can be a problem if that website ever goes out of business or the internet happens to be down the day you plan to do a lot of Christmas baking. I still find recipes in magazines and clip them out to put in my recipe book.

How you choose to categorize your recipes is mostly about what works for you and the kinds of things you typically cook/bake. If you never make cookies/pastries/cakes/pies then clearly your categories will be different from someone who does.

I can read written or typed in black ink recipe cards. I can't read the tiny print of grey text on pastel or off-white background on a little phone screen that keeps going black needing me to touch it while my hands are dirty from cooking.

We use our laptops in the event it's a recipe we don't have printed or like right now with our printer broken and we can'timmediately print it off. I find a good amount of recipes we have found online have a button you can select that keeps the screen from turning off.

I find that people who use digital usually use a tablet or a laptop. I do have pinterest and food network apps on my phone and I can go to Pillsbury website and log in if I need to find saved recipes like at the store or in a pinch elsewhere but I don't use my phone as a norm to look at recipes.

I'd file it under 'Vegetables', since, to me, the pepper is the defining ingredient.
