Where do you eat for healthier food?

My wife and I are going down for Halloween weekend to SSR. I have never needed to keep on eye one what I eat. This particular occasion I am needing to cut back the bad stuff. We plan to eat breakfast in the room and then have lunch and dinner when we are out and about.

I was thinking sushi but instead of soy sauce I could do a sweet chili sauce. Salmon, grilled chicken. . . I was also thinking of trying The Wave.

What tips do you have for trying to eat low/no salt, or low fat? Do you have any favorite restaurants to accomplish this?

I pre-order a custom recipe veggie juice from the restaurant on the lower level of the Dolphin. They have it ready for me every morning. In Epcot, I try to stick with kale/walnut/etc salads from the Counter Service dining near The Land, some 'clean chicken'/lentil dishes from the counter service in Morocco, etc.

bwvbound are you talking about the Sunshine Seasons? I am also looking for stuff outside the parks -resorts, Disney Springs, Boardwalk.

I am a diabetic and suffer from chronic pancreatitis due to high triglycerides. Both family genetic curses.

I find I can eat anywhere as long as you eat smartly off the menu. Vegetables and lean proteins are what I go after. When I order, I make sure they are not going to add any fat or carb items like sour cream, cheese, pasta, white rice, etc. that I don't need.

I can eat at McDonalds and follow that diet.

You know better than anyone what you can and cannot eat.

I do know what I can eat, just trying to get some ideas as a part of planning. Maybe someone has some good ideas of places for whole type veggies and proteins.

I'm afraid I don't keep up with Restaurant names -- they seem to come and go.
I spent considerable time/energy this past January with BWV Concierge desk trying to find places to find vegetables and practically gave up except for lousy salads. My conversations went something like this:

Concierge: How can I help you?
Me: I'm looking for dining recommendations. Where your restaurant recommendations for finding vegetables.
C: You are a vegetarian?
Me: No, but I am looking for vegetables.
C: Here are our vegetarian options.
(I read over their printout ... sees lots of pasta, sandwiches (breads), fried non-meat stuff ... but not heavy veg?)
Me: Where are the vegetables?
C: There is no meat.
Me: Got that ... but all I see are carbs/breads. Where are the vegetables?
C: We give up. We don't maintain a list for vegetables. Go grab a salad!
Me: Um, most Disney salads are based on iceberg lettuce. Hardly meal-worthy ... and pretty tiresome for a 10-day stay?
C: Where are you from?
Me: California.
C: Oh, that explains it. We don't eat like you do.
Me: Yeah. Kinda like our early "No Smoking" position. Someday, you WILL eat like us ...

Sigh. We left early, booked an expensive flight home and retreated to the familiar diet of the happy Californian. I've never been so glad to return home!

We really love Sunshine Seasons or the Garden Grill

Here are some of my go-to places when I want something that grew in soil:

The Wave --- many of their entrees have healthy veg sides, the vegetarian option is usually very good
Columbia Harbor House -- the slaw-and-hummus sandwich is good.
Boma usually has several great choices, Tusker is not bad but not as diverse.

There are others but I have to run.

Brian - Indeed, I have enjoyed Columbia Harbor House ... but was staying at BWV for a conference and didn't have time to make that long trek! I could run into Epcot for Morocco (lentils) and The Land.

OP: My biggest success is to book a 1BR or larger unit and order a grocery delivery from Whole Foods Market. That is my typical go-to solution especially as I'm not only concerned that food is "from the soil" but that it is, also, mostly organic. The January trip, alas, was a studio and didn't afford the kitchen space required for food storage and prep.

Where is the Whole Foods Market located? Would prefer to shop there for our stay!

No, that is it. No more WDW for me. I'll have to use my points for Aulani going forward.

Thank you! We drive, so we'll be able to drive there. So bummed they don't have delivery service. That sure would have been convenient!

We hope to make it to Aulani summer 2016!

You post a very good question and since you seem to be interested in low fat & sodium I think you will be ok just by stating your request to the waitress. Disney seems to be pretty accommodating. The TS restaurants almost always have fish, and chicken on the menus that you can have grilled (sauce served on the side or not at all) same with side orders of veggies. Spend some time checking out the menus before you go.

It does totally surprise me that organic has not gained momentum at WDW. It does put a downer on eating in the World for us. Our grocery orders are pretty much just organic (veggies & fruit), hormone free, antibiotic free, free range (dairy, chicken, eggs, with the exception of the alcohol of course :)). We do not use Whole Food because most of the stores have a good amount of organic produce/products and that's what we stick to on vaca. We still eat out but by the end of the week us girls are less enthusiastic about it. Our guys don't share our preference, so they will eat anything, it's a gender thing in our family.

We Go Shop will shop at Whole Foods for you if that is the grocery store you request. The have delivered raw almonds and lactose free yogurt for me from there.

I didn't know that you can get an abundance of vegetables at Aulani restaurants and organic, whole food delivered to you there. Good to know.

I get the sarcasm -- but when we visit Oahu we always have a rental car and forage on our own or get tips from friends/co-workers who live on the islands. At WDW, we have limited time (conference activities) and cede personal car in favor of "quick/easy/free" WDW transportation.

Edited to add link to our 2012 Vero/BWV trip report which includes notes on organic food choices. Sourcing organic veggies from the White Rabbit Acres CSA was a memorable highlight of trip!
