Where do you eat CS at DHS?

So I've noticed that the CS establishments (and even some TS) at DHS are widely considered to be sub-par by many here. We have avoided this in the past by mostly eating TS meals and snacks while visiting this park (it is hard to ruin a mickey ice cream :cool2:)

I'm taking DS(8) down for a long weekend to do the last Star Wars Weekend and we plan on spending the better part of a couple of days at DHS. Since this is just the two of us and a second trip this year (usually go once a year) I'm thinking about the QSDP to save a bit. I'd pickup a couple of TS meals out of pocket at our favorites. Unfortunately DS is somewhat picky, but in an unusual way. He does not like mac-n-cheese, burgers, or chicken nuggets.

So where do you (and your kids) eat at DHS? Or do you have some other strategy? :wave2:

Absolutely zip! ABC Comm is permanently scratched of my list. If I don't eat at Sci-Fi or 50's Prime Time, I just have Popcorn and ice cream and then eat CS elsewhere. This works out great because with AM EMH's, DHS is 1/2 day park for us. DHS still needs a lot of work, more and better CS and more rides. We've done Star Wars week-end for the last 3 years, get there early and then move to another park after 12:00, if you have park hoppers.

The Studios have the worst dining IMO. We try to get by on snacks and such. If we need to grab a meal, we'll usually go to the Studio Catering Co.

Not crazy about the restaurants at this park. 50' OK sometimes. Sci-Fi OK. MM OK. BD good. I would rather eat at the BW or Swan or Dolphin then take the boat to the park.

We usually try to plan our HS time without having to eat at a CS! But if we have no choice, our best bet is a hot dog combo or a sloppy joe (from the kids meal;))at Backlot express. I agree that ABC is the worse CS ever. Even the burger was nasty!!!!!

We always eat at Backlot Express when at HS. It's not the greatest, but IMO it's the best CS option at HS. They have a yummy turkey sandwich.

I am not sure how you are planning your days at DHS, but what works best for my family is a early Hollywood&Vine before park opening. At around 1pm or 2pm we head back to the resort for CS lunch and to nap/rest or swim to avoid some of the summer heat (we are going in June.) Then we head back to DHS around 5pm to finish up what we missed and/or Fantasmic!
Another day at DHS we are doing the early H&V, then have a 3:50pm F! dinner package at H&V (yes, twice in one day... my kids and DW love H&V.)
Either way, we always try to avoid a CS meal at DHS.

I had a very good chicken salad at Toy Story Pizza Planet. My boys love Toy Story and we go there for them. DH ate the pizza and said it was OK. I'm a pizza snob from Brooklyn and don't eat theme park pizza. My boys ate the pizza and liked it. But they love Ellio's pizza too! LOL, I don't go near the stuff!

This summer's trip we have 2 days planned at DHS. One day I made an ADR at 50s Prime Time and the other day the boys requested to go to Pizza Planet again. No doubt, I will be having a salad again!

Croissants from Starring Rolls
Pulled Pork sandwich from Studio Catering

Still need to try Starring Rolls for lunch sometime....

my daughter loves the honey I shrunk the kids playground...so we ate right there...good rice beans & chicken, greek salad, & pulled pork sandwich

Our boys enjoy Pizza Planet. It's nice that they give you a salad with it and it's a fun atmosphere.

Generally we avoid counter service at DHS. Slim pickin's. Probably the best is Starring Roles. But it is too compact of an area IMO to make it relaxing or enjoyable at many times.
We either eat off site, by going to the Boardwalk, or just leave.
Probably about a year ago in a pinch we ate at ABC Comm. I ended up ordering a kids meal that actually hit the spot for me. It was their ham n cheese wrap (roll up sandwich). Although had I been really hungry I could easily have eaten two. But for the price, that still would not be bad.
(And I am looking forward to the Dancing With the SW Stars! :) That's the best part for me. You can watch past years on youtube.)

Starring Rolls has good sandwiches and desserts. I found breakfast to be good there, as well. They have an espresso machine, too. It is located next door to the Brown Derby, which is my favorite TS restaurant in DHS. Otherwise, I leave the park to eat.:thumbsup2

Starring rolls is really good! I actually look forward to eating there each time. Their desserts are just awesome, and sandwiches are huge and delicious!! Try it and you won't be disappointed. It's a great lunch.

We have actually given up on the idea of having a good CS meal at DHS. :confused3
Honestly we go to the places that are to the left of TOT and RnR.
Catalina Eddie's, Rosie's All American Cafe, and Fairfax Fare.
The food isn't excellent there, but there are plenty of choices for everyone to keep us filled until we can make it to dinner at a decent place. ;)

Starring Rolls - everything we ate from there was really good!

The only other option for us is a soft pretzel and a frozen lemonade on the way to TOT!! YUM!!

Otherwise we agree that DHS has the worst cs!:guilty:

Thanks for all of the suggestions & ideas!

I think we will try Starring Rolls (only had a snack there before, if you count a Napoleon as a snack!) and/or Pizza Planet for lunches. I also discovered there's a turkey leg stand, since kiddo loves those, that's another option. I have an ADR for Sci-Fi on Sunday night (which we do like) so we can make that a full day and see Fantasmic.

Several of you mentioned heading over to the boardwalk to eat, and now that somebody off board reminded me there's a boat the runs from DHS to the boardwalk & Epcot, that might be an option should we decide to take a break.
