Where do you believe...

I'm always so shocked to see people say with joy in their heart and lots of :) :) that they will be going to heaven!

Heaven sounds scary to me.

I mean that with no disrespect....I just find it fascinating. I guess thats true faith, to be so assured that you will go on to a better place. I doubt I will EVER get to that point.

If there is a heaven, I believe in Universal salvation (hence, once of the reasons I'm a Unitarian Universalist). However, what I tell my children is that I'm not sure what heaven is like, or if there is a physical heaven. I also tell them that the one thing I'm sure of is that we give of positive and negative energy in our life. After we die, when people think of us and smile, the positive energy we gave is being remembered and that is a kind of heaven. This also applies to positively effecting someone's life and they in turn are able to help others.

I'm not sure if I explained that very well. We also emphasize that they should make up their own minds about god and heaven.

I love the way you explained that. It sounds lovely, and non-threatening. :)

I'm far from assured that I'm going anywhere. But if I was to take a guess, I'll guess that I'll be going to Heaven. Nobody truly knows where they're going or if there even anywhere to go.

One thing is certain, if there is a Heaven, then those children in your signature pic are angels that came from there. :) :goodvibes Too cute! :)

True. But some seem so eager to get to "heaven". Heaven has always seemed so ambigious to me, but people who have very strong faith seem to almost look forward to it. I just find that fascinating. I guess I'm too much of a cynic to ever get to that point. Its more comforting to me to think we'll be reincarnated, that way I get to stay here on Earth, even if I'm not me. :p

(I know, I sound like a 5 year old, but hey, there you have it. :p )

I don't believe in one sure definition of Heaven. It all depends on the person. I believe our souls will go wherever they will be happiest. (For some of us here in the DIS, that would most likely be WDW! :flower: ) I believe we will go to whatever our personal Heaven is, and we will have the option of visiting Earth as a ghost/spirit, or to stay on Earth by being reincarnated as the creature of our choice.

Whatever makes our soul the happiest.

These are my beliefs:

WHAT IS THE “SOUL”?

The Bible’s teaching about the soul is very clear. It says that when man is animated by the breath of life from God, man becomes “a living soul.” At Genesis 2:7 it is written: “And God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground [elements found in the earth] and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” You will note that this passage does not say the soul was created before the body. Neither does it say the soul was “given to” or “put into” man. Nor does it say that the “breath of life” was the soul. Instead, it says that when man came alive, beginning to breathe, “man came to be a living soul.”

Thus, as used in the Bible, the word “soul” means a living, breathing, sense-possessing creature. This is why the Bible also calls animals “souls,” though it does not use this word for plants.

CAN IT DIE?

If “the soul is inseparable from the body,” does this mean that when you die your soul dies? Yes. The Bible speaks of souls as dying, and as being struck fatally, killed, destroyed or devoured. And it uses the specific term “dead soul.”

It may further surprise many persons to know that, exactly opposite to what is taught in modern catechism classes and Sunday schools, Jesus’ own disciples said that the soul dies. In their gospels, epistles and other writings that are now included in the Christian Greek Scriptures of the Bible, the words “soul” and “souls” appear more than fifty times. Yet not one single time is the word “immortal” associated with them. Not even once does the Bible use the common expression “immortal soul.”

Instead, Jesus’ disciple James showed that a sinning soul dies. He wrote: “Know that he who turns a sinner back from the error of his way will save his soul from death.” (Jas. 5:20) In the apostle John’s vision of God’s anger “every living soul died, yes, the things in the sea.”—Rev. 16:3.

God created man to live on the earth. He already had "myriads" of angels, seryphs, etc. in heaven.(Yes a very few of mankind will go to heaven to be co-rulers with Jesus, but that's a different topic than the one at hand).

Think about this: If Adam and Eve had not sinned, where would they be today? They'd still be alive, here on earth. In Genesis, God told Adam and Eve that if they sinned (ate from the tree that they were told not to eat from), they would perish. And starting from the day they ate the forbidden fruit, they started to age and deteriorate, and ultimately died. Otherwise, they never would've lost their perfect state, the aging process never would've started, and they never would've died.

“The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” Yes, the dead know absolutely nothing.

Personally, I've never had a desire to go to "heaven". I like it right here on earth. LOL All of our sense were created by God to enjoy all that the earth has to offer; smells, sights, sounds, etc. When I learned what the bible really says about death and life, I was relieved to know that God's original purpose to have man populate the earth, in a perfect condition like it started out, will (eventually) come true. And with the way things are going in the world right now, all biblical signs point to the fact that it could happen in our lifetime.

Ditto!

One cannot know? I believe the Bible tells us that we can be assured of where we will go. Now, if I was relying on my good thoughts and deeds to get me to heaven, trust me, I would not be sure. However, I have a relationship with God through Christ, the ultimate High Priest, and therefore I can be sure of His gift of eternal life in His Presence. It isn't about me or how good I am/bad I am, it is strictly by faith and belief the Jesus Christ and who he was and why He came and what He did for everyone.
This is just my belief and what I believe the Bible to teach about having assurance of your faith in Christ.

Yeah, what you said. :)

This type of thing has been debated before on the CB. I stated, then, that the Bible was too confusing to be a guide book. There are other requirements stated in the Bible, giving credit to the Christ it refers to, than to just relax in the gift of eternal life. Meeting the criteria is hard work involving both thoughts and deeds.

I totally disagree with that but I am also someone who feels we are all free to disagree.
I'm not relaxed in my journey with God. I do, however, have reassurance of my faith and where I am going when I die.
Faith without works is dead. But you cannot work your way into Heaven. With faith comes works and good deeds. Believing in Christ isn't a one time belief type of thing. The Bible tells us that satan "believes" in God.

But nothing I do , besides my faith in God and Christ, allow me into the presence of God. Jesus Christ completed the job. He needs no "help" from me and I can't help myself enough. Someone who sincerely accepts Christ at the end of their life will die and be in the presence of God. He has no time to do good works...he's dying. His reward may not be as wonderful(?) but he will be in the presence of God.

Again, this is only what I believe and what I believe the Bible teaches. You are quite welcome to believe your way.

Where do you believe...

you (or your soul) will go when you die, and why?

I KNOW I will be in the presence of Jesus because of Jesus!

The Apostle Paul disagrees with you. Can you expound on what those other requirements are?

My belief is that is that you go to "shoel" (the grave) until the time of judgement when those that have died are judged. The deserving (accepting Yashua as savior) will enter heaven and the undeserving will be thrown into Gehenna (tha lake of fire).

I believe I'll go to Heaven, where I'll be with my dad and hold my two little boys again! Why do I believe that? I don't think it matters. Even if i'm wrong and there isn't a Heaven, then at least the last thing on my mind will be the picture of it.
