We are cruising in October (5 adults and a 3 year old) we want to dress as pirates without speading a lot of money. I see pictures of a lot of great costumes. Any suggestions?

I bought all the fabrics/notions/patterns for ours and my Dmom sewed them.

Pretty good considering she didn't have the fit models in her state. (We live about 5 hrs from her. )

For about the last three weeks leading up to our December trip she would answer the phone "sweatshop" because it was pretty time consuming.

I guess some of the patterns were harder the first time round. I did hear she reused the pattern to my DH's coat for someone else though and the 2nd coat was much faster to produce.

I'd say all in all between all the stuff i bought it was around $200 for all three of us. (Including pirate boots for DH and a purchased pair of pants for DD)

The Disney Store does have the Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth costumes out now......with all of the hats, shoes, swords, etc. to go with them. Of course, I don't consider them cheap. The costumes are $49.50 each.

I just bought costumes this weekend for my nephews. DisneyShopping.com has some sales this week on costumes. I couldn't find a teen-size outfit so I went to shop.com and found dozens of costumes shops. I ended up getting a jack sparrow costume from disney for my little nephew and one from another website for my older nephew.

Oh, the prices at Disney were comparable to the other stores.

[/IMG]If you can going in Oct...then with Halloween costumes out..you shouldn't have any problem finding something..that's what I've always done for my kids. I probably pay $20 at the most.....I also start being on the lookout for pieces I can put together to create a unique outfit...that's alot of fun..especially for girls/Mom's too...a blouse, skirt....a belt...a peice of jewerly....etc. that inspires that perfect outfit. So "Minnie" possibilites!! Have fun with it!!! This picture was taken one morning when Jack Sparrow was scheduled for pictures...take advantage.......go all out!!pirate:

We bought ours on eBay, except for my DD5, which we bought at Costume Express . com

We spent a lot of money, but that's because we're very particular about how much skin is showing. :rotfl2: (And we had five adults and three children to buy for.) The pirate hats at the end of the Pirates ride at WDW were far superior to any others we looked at.

Is it gauche to admit I checked out the local Goodwill store? :confused3 I picked up some frou-frou shirts with ruffles, some beat up pants and a scarf or two there for under $10 total.

For me, the investment was in the hats. The hats had to be just right, so we opted for the hats from WDW or the Disney Store.

BuyCostumes.com has a lot of relatively inexpensive pirate costumes.

Also, if you want to spend a little more money, you have to check out DressLikeaPirate.com. They are a little pricey, but the shirts and pants are made out of real material and will last a lot longer than normal costume clothing.
Now... if you take a cruise a year, you'll end up saving money in the long run. :lmao:
