Sorry if this has been asked before, but where do people leave a laptop for safekeeping (will be staying at AKL and OKW)? Don't want to carry it around theme park or leave in room... I've never used the room safe and can't remember how big they are?
Do people leave them at reception? Is this usual?
Would there be a charge or tip required for this?

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I know some people would not agree with this but I always just leave mine in the room usually on the table where I am using it and have never had a problem.

When we stayed at OKW (1BR) we simply left the laptop in it's case in the 'blanket drawer' of the TV unit. A cable lock sounds like a good idea if you're worried about security though.

The safe isn't really a safe - it's only wide enough for your tickets/wallet/passports.

We just returned from 4 nights at BWV and 7 nights at AKV. We each had a laptop with us (3 total). They were left out in the room each day when we were gone to the parks, and we had no problem.

:thumbsup2 I always leave mine out as well.... never thought of it as an issue of being stolen... I do however have a password on my screensaver.

We have left ours out on the table, in a drawer under the clothing, in a locked suitcase in the closet and on at least one occasion is a safe that was in fact large enough(can't remember where that was). Have never had a problem but think I will be locking it in the closet in the suitcase with the dirty laundry stacked on top this time just for something different.

That's what we do too. The laptop we use for traveling is getting pretty old and isn't really worth much, though! Especially now with DVC, we know most days no one is even coming into the room, so I've never really worried about it.

I don't think the safe is big enough tho. I have a really small laptop and it definitely didn't fit.

Anyways, you could always put your laptop in your suitcase and lock it. That's what my parents do when they travel.

We left our in the laptop case in the closet. I wasn't worried about it getting stolen we just try to not have everything laying around.

I setup my laptop on the table and it stays for the entire trip. I also have a Nikon camera i leave as well some days and never worry.

When staying in any hotels with our notebooks, we security cable them and then put them into their laptop bags (for when we leave the rooms).

With the cable extended, we chain it around the toilet (usually). The reason for this is that a security cable is only good as what you chain it to. As furnishings are not bolted to the floors, chaining to a desk or table isn't really a safe option. Unfortunately, the only object bolted to the floors that we can rely on finding is usually the toilet.

I have yet to find a safe large enough to fit our notebooks - and we've staying in many hotel chains.

There has been a time or 2 where my laptop did fit into the room safe (or was that when I've stayed in a Value?)

I always put it back in the bag, between other bags to not be too obvious.

For security, always think about what is most important. Is the loss just hardware ($$$) or are you worried about data (priceless pictures, and/or financial data?)

If the monatary loss of a stolen laptop computer is too great for you, then do not bring it on the trip.

While the monatary loss would be significant to me the greatest loss would be losing my vacation pictures! I always try to keep my burned DVD's of pictures in a different bag, just in case.

FYI: Screensaver passwords are worthless. All someone has to do is turn the computer off and then back on.

I lock my laptop, medication, other valuables, and toothbrushes in a hard case samsonite locked luggage. Not going to prevent a determined thief but does prevent sticky fingers or opportunity seekers.

Also, if you leave power cables/chargers laying around, it does clue an oberservant person in on the fact that you likely are hiding electronics somewhere in the room.

I have mine set up with a power-on password as well (3 wrong tries and it locks). I usually leave mine either in my bookbag or in the suitcase.

Mine will not fit in the safe.

There is NO pixie dust at DVC. Leaving them "on the table" is just an inviation for for "my laptop disappeared"

Mine is locked to the table using a $20 cable lock. Trust me it's worth it!

I do think it's ridiculous that DVC has highspeed Internet which arguably requires a laptop, but doesn't give you enough space in the room safe for said laptop.

Just makes you want to SLAP someone... doesn't it?

Just kidding... I agree. :)
