we are going to the food & wine festival oct 5th-9th w/ 2 kids: 5yr DS and 3yr DD.
1. What is appropriate to take them to?
2. Are there kids prices for the meals?
3. There is a signature dinner at jikos on the 8th- is that okay for kids?

any input is appreciated!

Here's how I would answer:
  1. There are booths selling international foods around World Showcase Lagoon, which could be a great way to expose kids to international foods. There are family-oriented exhibits, such as exhibits about peanuts or honey. There are concerts and special entertainment. There are complimentary culinary demonstrations, which would probably be boring for most younger children, but could be interesting to older children who have an interest in cooking. And, of course, the F&W Festival is set in Epcot, a Disney theme park, with many things for kids.
  2. There are no children's menus or children's prices for the ticketed dining events — such as Food & Wine Pairings, the weekly "A Party for the Senses" event, the Regional Feasts, and the Wine Schools. These events are not meant for children.
  3. The Signature Dinner at Jiko has probably already sold out. The price is $145, including tip, plus tax, per person. It's a set menu. Plan on foods with creative preparation for adventuresome tastes. There is a different wine with each course. It's not appropriate for children. (It's also not a good value for adults who don't drink wine or adults who prefer simple meat and potato meals.)
The Food & Wine Festival might be a good time to sign the kids up for one of the kids' clubs and for the grownups to enjoy some activities for grownups.

Walking around World Showcase and stopping at the various booths for samples of food, wine and beer is great fun and easy to do with kids -- although I highly recommend you not try this on a weekend night. On Friday and Saturday nights, the locals come out, drink alot of beer and, IMO, things can get rowdy. So, we avoid the weekend evenings. I think they have some displays for kids about peanuts, shrimp, etc. Beyond that, the ticketed events are really only appropriate for adults or sometimes a very mature teen (minus the wine/beer, of course). They do not provide alternative menus for children and alot of the focus is on the wines.

The Signature Dinners are not suitable for children. There is no children's pricing and no child menus. They will pay full price and they don't drink wine, either.

Children that young would most likely not be interested in the food or the presentations, either. These are very talky events that can take up to 3 hours.

As Horace has mentioned, none of the ticketed events are set up to accommodate young children.

Plenty goes on at the festival around Epcot that they might enjoy, though.
