Where do I leave the money?

Hi all. Well my 1st.trip to WDW is paid in full  Now I am saving my spending money. Question is, is it safe to leave the money you are not using in the safe of your room? I read on one of the post a neat idea (well IMHO) and that is to put spending $ in individual envelopes for each day, if something is left over one day, I add it to the next days spending envelope. I am also making some mousekeeping envelopes with a tip so as to just whip it out ea day (another of your ideas).Well, do I leave all those envelopes full of cash in the safe? Has anyone done this with no problems? I am untrusting by nature and I keep thinking that I am not the only one with a key to the safe... not accusing just thoughts that randomly come to mind.:rolleyes1 But on the other hand I need to keep it somewhere! I'll have my cc but I have read here that having cash is necesary as well so opinions, guidance, suggestions...HELP!!!

Aside from mousekeeping tips, if you are staying on site you really don't need cash much. Everything accepts CCs except a very few of the small snack carts, but even the majority of those take CCs now. I would take only enough cash for tips and then a little extra maybe, but everything else I'd have on a prepaid CC or else just use a normal CC (protection against charges, etc.) and forget the cash entirely. I just find it safer that way, safe or no safe. :)

Not only do I use the safe for any cash - but I also use it for my son's meds that are highly profitable in the wrong hands. And never had any problems.

We actually forgot to lock the safe one entire day and freaked out when we realized this upon our return. We opened our wallets ready to be sick to our stomachs when we found EVERYTHING in its place. Needless to say, Mousekeeping at CBR got a HUGE tip that trip.

The safe for cash will be fine if you bring it, but we use the "Key To The World Card" 99.9% of the time, lot easier that way.

I second the PP... you really don't need much cash (although obviously you can use it if you want to). We charge just about everything to our room key, even most snack carts take those. Or you can use your CC. I have rarely paid cash at all. If you are taking all the cash becuase you think you have to, then I wouldn't. If you are taking it to try and stay on budget, that's a different story. Have fun! :)

The safe is not very large, but I use it for all my valuables, Take the Key with you. I put the key in a Zipper pocket in my Fanny pack.

Honestly, I leave my cash enevelop in some randomly placed pocked in my luggage or carry on. Never had a problem. I know there's always a possibility of your money getting stolen but I thnk the majority of mousekeeping would rather keep their jobs than steal your cash. I think it's DEFINITELY safe in the safe.

I agree :). We never leave cash in the room safe as we travel with just enough cash for small incidentals and use our credit or debit card for everything else ::yes::. DH and I split whatever cash we have so we each have a little. Plus there are ATMs all over so it's easy to get cash if you feel you need more :cutie:.

We did the same thing one day. We were about to get on IASW when I realized I didn't lock the safe. All of our money was in there. I was freaking out. We were staying at WL, so me and the kids stayed in the park while my DH ran back to WL. I have never been so unhappy on a ride. It seemed like the longest ride of my life. By the time we got off the ride my DH called to say everything was still there. I knew I had left the safe door as well as the closet door wide open. Our mousekkeeper closed the safe door and the closet door. I made sure I told her supervisor what she did and what an honest person she is. We still leave our valuables in the safe. We triple check each time to make sure it is locked. We have never had a problem. Needless to say though, I cringe everytime I walk past IASW now.:rotfl2:

I've used the safe with no problems as well. I also keep the mousekeeping tips there as well, in their envelopes ready to go.

I usually take $75 a day into the parks since I only stay until the it gets too hot $75 usually works at least until we can get back to the room where I have rest of my money in the safe. I love the idea about enevelops for mousekeeping!!!

1) This requires a is a two-pronged approach.
2) For the daily spending money - OK to leave in room safe.
3) For the bulk of vacation money - leave in Front Desk Safe Deposit Box

NOTE: Most homeowners' insurance will pay for loss from safe deposit boxes above the deductible, but typically not from room safes. When you place the money in the safe deposit box, ask the CM witness it. You could even put the amount on the safe deposit log/sign-in sheet and adjust downward each time you access more cash - which can be as often as you like.

I usually bring a little cash and always get Travelers Checks for the rest. I mostly charge everything to the room, but sometimes, especially near park closing, the machines shut down at the kiosks and you need cash. I put the Travelers Checks in the safe along with any extra money I don't want to take with me into the parks and have never had a problem.

The safe is safe!! LOL!! Excuse the pun!!

Seriously, we are pretty trusting by nature & seldom have we been let down. We've even been known to leave cash out in plain sight in our room & no one has taken it. Not to say it can't happen but I think overall, Disney is pretty safe...there's that pun again!

As always my new Disney family doesn't let me down. Thanks for all the responses. One more problem solved. :thumbsup2 Now lets see what other random question or worry will come to me in the middle of the night. I've decided that keeping some $ in the safe, especially the mousekeeping envelopes will be cool, but the bulk of it I'll ask a cm about the safe deposit box or maybe I will just use my bank card if there are alot of atms as one of you mentioned. Again thanks all.
