Where do I get $1 coins (US)?

I need to get 20 $1 coins in good condition for work....long story. Does anyone know where I could get them? Do I just go to bank? Do they have to be ordered?

Go to a post office vending machine, put in $20, buy one stamp, you'll get 19 dollar coins back. Go to the CTA (train) station, put in $20, buy one ride and you'll get 18 back.....

I thought I was the only one that happened to. I went to the PO yesterday and came back with 13 of those dang dollar coins. Maybe we are going to the same PO?

Walmart also used to give them out all the time.

But yes, you can also request them from your bank. It may take a few days, but they can typically get quite a few within a day or two. I did the same with $2 bills a few years ago. It took three days, but then I had 100 of them.

Post office machines are set up to give the Sackajewa (sp) Dollar coins, but not the Silver dollar coins. I think you have to get those from the bank.

I would call the bank before you go over there. The bank I used to work for never had the dollar coins. We hated them, and whenever we'd get them in, they usually went right into the coin machine so we didn't have to have them in our drawer and as soon as that bag was full they'd get shipped out. Definitely call before you go.

Thanks guys. I found a bank in town that has a HUGE office there and they said to come in tomorrow morning.

I had to call 4 banks before I found one that had them. They conversations went like this:

Me "I need 20 $1 coins."
Them "You need a $20 coin?"
Me "No, I need TWENTY $1 coins"
Them "$20 dollars in coins?"

Sigh.

We use them at work at the rail road ticket machines so I ge them all the time..I give my daughter her allowance in a 5.00 bill and one gold dollar coin every week..she recently counted her gold coins and she has over 200 of them!
