Where do cats hide? UPDATE: post 27

On top of the cabinet that is on top of the refrigerator - never would have guessed a cat could get up there, but ours does. Behind the water heater, furnace, or laundry machines. I read a news story once about a cat that got stuck IN a washing machine - it had squeezed itself in between the barrel that the clothes go into, and the outer part of the machine :scared1: Closets, cupboards, drawers, boxes, fireplace, air ducts, book shelves... I hope you find her soon!

my friend's cat knows how to get into (and out of, though he pretends he's "stuck" and meows for you to let him out...) bathroom and kitchen cabinets.

If she didn't respond to tuna, she's probably some place she can't get out of. I'd open all of your drawers and cabinet doors.

Any suitcases around? Our big fella has a thing for suitcases-loves to sit on top of them. One time we were practically frantic at trying to find him,and for some odd reason, our daughter happened to lift the lid of my husband's carryon, and there he was, fast asleep. He's a nutbucket.

Mine love to hide in closets. I have to always double check after opening one to make sure I do not trap one in there when I close the door.

Have you been in any rooms you would normally keep closed that he might have slipped into? Closets you might have opened? Also try on top of the kitchen cabinets - I was searching for one of my cats for ages once and it turned out he was just watching me from on top of the cabinets, looking at me like I was crazy!

Try shaking the treat bag and make sure it's quiet so you can hear him if he's meowing! Let us know when he turns up!

She came out to get her tuna about 5 minutes after I opened the can. I was in the kitchen, turned around and there she was just sitting there looking at me. Still have no idea where she was.

:lmao:

Now if she does it again 'n you pull out the tuna can, she'll know she's got ya trained. ;)

Good advice. She also might be sound asleep. This is prime nap time for cats.

One time my neighbor lost her cat for a few days. She was asking around to everyone if they had seen him. I thought back and remembered I had closed the door the crawl space a couple of days earlier after finding it left open. Went to check and sure enough, out ran her cat!

Hope your furry friend makes an appearance soon.

Mine has 3 spots I've found and one I haven't yet. I know what end of the house it's in but I haven't found her spot. Good luck. Mine will come if she hears a can of wet food being opened. :)

So glad she reappeared!

My dad's cat liked to go in the linen closet and hide up on the top shelve behind the blankets. Darn cat just about gave me a heart attack one night when I went looking for a blanket:scared1:

Glad you found the kitty!

Mine has found some interesting places to hide before in closets. Sometimes I thought I would never find her.

A couple of times she went missing over the winter, I found her in the guest room. We keep that closed off during the winter to keep from heating it. I guess when I went in there for something, she followed me in and I didn't know it, and when I left I closed her up in there.

Worst one was when she was barely older than a kitten...she liked to look out the glass door if the front door was open. My DH went along and closed the front door one night, and she was stuck in between the house door and the glass door.

Ours opens the cabinet under the sink, squeezes through the hole by the dishwasher hose and sleeps behind the dishwasher...took months to figure out where she was going. She has foiled every attempt at closing up her access including childproof cabinet locks.... so I just gave up and make sure I know where she is when I start the dishwasher. she also likes behind the fridge (quite a squeeze) It is warm back there.

Glad she reappeared! My cat has done this too... can't find her to save my life and then she'll magically reappear, her little tail in the air, like she can't understand what I'm all worked up about.

In the meantime I do 10 laps around the house and 100 deep knee bends checking in/under every available hiding area. So I usually get my exercise out of her little disappearances.

Cats are a mystery!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Isn't that the truth!!!

ETA-I'm glad she came out of hiding.
The one good thing about the cat I have now is that she's a talker. If I call her and she can't get to me, she'll meow. Now if she's sitting in plain sight and I call her to come over, that's a different story. She just looks at me like I'm crazy.

When I was a kid, we had an old church organ in our house. One day we were just sure our kitten had gotten out because we had looked everywhere. About 10 hours after she went missing we were sitting watching tv and she sauntered out of the pedals of the organ.

Someone mentioned the crawl space. A few years ago, we had a cat in our crawlspace for almost a week. We couldn't figure out why the dog kept getting all upset in the middle of the night! Thankfully, dh needed to go in the crawl space - we can go ages without ever going in there. He pulled the door off and out ran a hysterical cat. Our floor must be really well insulated because the insulation under our bedroom was all torn up and we hadn't heard a thing.
