I'm going to Disneyland the first week of December and wanted some input as to everyones thoughts about the hotel you stayed at. Any help would be appreciated.

We go to Disneyland every year and we have stayed at Paradise Pier and the Tropicana. We like both hotels. Although the Paradise Pier is a little nicer. The Tropicana is in a great location right across from the park. You are located pretty much in the middle and are within walking distance to a lot of the restaurants. My in laws have stayed at the Carousel Inn and they really like that hotel as well.
The service in all hotels is great.

Hope this helps!

For off-site - Candy Cane Inn is wonderful. Nice rooms, great suttle service, very nice free breakfast. On site we have stayed at Paradise Pier - I enjoyed it, and heard that the pool has been updated to be more "Disney". It's less themed than the other Disney hotels, but still fine and convinient!

All three of the Disney Hotels are great and even better if you get a good deal. My least favorite is the Paradise Pier becausem for a Disney Hotel, it is a little bland. I love the Disneyland Hotel for the large rooms in two of the towers along with the great decor and pretty grounds. The Grand Californian is wonderful though I find the rooms a bit small. The decore is beautiful but a little less Disney oriented.
Off site my favorite places to stay are...
The Howard Johnson for its large, quiet rooms, interior corridors and shady, landscaped grounds. The rooms are a bit bland but very comfortable.
The Park Place Inn and Mini Suites. We liked our mini suite a lot. The room decore was nice and tropical and it was comfortable. The architecture and grounds are minimal but it is the easiest to walk to the parks from.
The Candy Cane Inn has loads of atmosphere inside and out and is really pretty. The rooms are comfortable though not large. The free breakfast and private shuttle to the parks are great.
Other places I have stayed over the years that have been fine are...
The Park Inn (Formerly the Park Inn International)
The Tropicana
The Anabella
The Desert Inn and Suites
The Sheraton

In April, we stayed at Embassy Suites South in Garden Grove. It's one mile from DL. It uses the ART shuttle, which about the only negative thing I can say about the hotel.

The free breakfast is incredible. Made to order omelettes, all kinds of breads and pastries. Cereal, oatmeal, meats, coffee, tea, the works!

The free happy hour reception is nuts! They also have snacks like cheese and crackers, fruits, etc. at that time too. I think my dad drank enough every night to break even on the room! ;)

The rooms are really really nice. And all the rooms are suites so you have a little privacy when napping if someone wants to watch tv. Room service was quick and the portions were huge! Same with the food in the cafe in the lobby. We took our leftovers back to the room and warmed them up in the microwave the next day for lunch!

All rooms have micros and a half size fridge. There is a wet bar sink in the fridge area. The bathrooms are nice sized with Neutrogena products. There is a table with four chairs in the living room area. There is a tv in each room.

The housekeeping service was excellent too.

For the price, (I think we paid $118 plus tax for a double/double room w/ my mom's AARP discount), with free breakfast and reception, it cannot be beat!

I actually did like the ART system enough that we ended up using it exclusively for our trip. However, during the "off" season, they take a 2 hour break with no service right around noon. That's when we needed to take DS bake to the hotel to sleep, so it was rather inconvenient. Plus the ART driver lied to us and told us he could not take us back to the hotel and another bus would be along "in a few minutes" - but actually none was scheduled to return for 2 hours! We had to get a taxi back to the hotel. Another lady who was waiting with us almost missed her flight because that driver would not take us back to the hotel. Needless to say, both the hotel and ART heard about it from us later!

We will be staying at the Residence Inn in GG in December. (We are going on a "budget trip" in December so we plan on getting the 2 bedroom suite for 6 of us.) We'll see how it compares to Embassy.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I have to 2nd the HOJO- really enjoyed my 2 stays there and am currently booked for July here :)

It makes me nervous no one EVER mentions the LaQuinta. We are also going the first week in December and that is where we are staying........only because we have 4 free nights there and they serve breakfast too. So I am hoping it is okay.

I don't recall seeing a LaQuinta around the area. It could be new or and older place that was changed into a LaQuinta. Do you have the address? I will look it up and see if I know anything about it.

We've stayed at both the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier and loved each stay. In fact we'll be staying at the Disneyland Hotel when we're there from 9/29 - 10/6.

We've also stayed at the Super 8 and enjoyed that as well. The price was right, the rooms were very clean and there was no noise even though the entire place was booked.

Okay. That La Quinta used to be the Peacock or Homested Suites. It alwasy looked nice from the outside. I have read contrasting reviews about the place but in general the rooms were fine. It was the service that had a couple of complaints. Perhaps with La Quinta taking it over the service will have changed. It is not an easy walk over to the parks though probably would be 15 minutes or so. I am sute the ART shuttle picks up and drops off there.

Thanks! All i care is it is free for us. My dh travels all the time and stays at Laquintas all the time in OR so he gets rewards. All the ones he stays at has nice service so I hope this one does too. In fact, the one we just stayed at together in Albany, OR brought us a bottle of apple cider, 2 champagne glasses and a box of chocolates. They also let him stay in the huge suite for the regular price b/c he stays there so much. It is nice for us as it has a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It looks like a small apt. It even has skylights. All that for 55 dollars a night. He gets a business rate. So as you can see........so far we have been pleased with them. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

We went to DL this past June and stayed at LaQuinta Inn which used to be Hawthorn Suites. We were there right in the midst of their changing ownership and we were not very impressed. We checked in at 7 p.m. on a Saturday for a week's stay. We had requested a crib for our 1 1/2 year old with the reservation, called about it before arriving and asked again upon check in. It took about 2 hours to get it. (this was after a day spending10 hours travelling from Providence) Monday night after coming back late from a day in the park we could not open our door. They had deactivated our key card because they thought we were checking out. A couple things in the room were not working (the fridge and a lock on the bathrom door) and while they got the fridge working it took several days to get the lock fixed. The breakfast did not include all that the website said it had and was basically the same every day - bacon and eggs that went very quickly, a few not really kid friendly cereals, EM and toast and doughnuts a couple days which also went very quickly. We did eat there most days because it was already paid for. Parking was also tight. We never didn't have a space but if others had come in after us they may have been out of luck. The most positive things were the room size - we liked having separate sleeping and living areas and that the location was not too far away that you could not walk. Hopefully things have improved now that they are finished with the ownership change.

I've stayed at a few places. We stayed in the Portifino Inn one year and didn't have any complaints. The place is relatively new, so it looks nice.

We also stayed at the Coast Anaheim, which is just behind the Portifino. It's one of the larger hotels on Harbor. The room was comfortable and we had a nice view of the Disneyland Resort. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a little far to walk for my tastes (although there's a shuttle if you want to do that).

Another time, we stayed at the Park Place Inn. I loved the proximity to the parks (around 5 minutes walk) and the rooms were fine.

We stayed at the Marriot in Garden Grove. Very large compared to the hotels closer to DL. I thought it was a nice hotel, but I'd rather stay within walking distance.

Then there's the onsite hotels. We've stayed at all three and definitely enjoy the Grand Californian the most. Great-looking place and very close to everything.

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel back before it was renovated. I loved the grounds and the things within the hotel, but the room was pretty bland at the time (by Disney standards). Now the rooms seem to look really nice, based on the pictures I've seen. I hope to stay there for the 50th Anniversary.

We stayed at the Paradise Pier Hotel and I wasn't all that impressed by it. Again, this was before it was rennovated. The view from our room was wonderful though.

We love
Disneyland Hotel (only if we can get it for a good deal)
Candy Cane - (very clean, nice shuttle, friendly staff)
Hyatt (not bad for $35 on priceline)

Did not like
Jolly Roger

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED:

Candy Cane Inn....prettiest, nicest cheapy we have ever stayed at.

Like also:
Coast Hotel...but we have a car and they charge parking daily (ok w/me as we had a super cheap rate w/online booking). View of park was nice, room was plenty spatious and clean.

Also happy w/:
Portofino
Hawthorne

DO NOT RECOMMEND:
Best Western Stovall's...creepy, dirty, scary place!
Days Inn Suites down Katella...was small and thin walls.

I can normally get the HoJo for 69-79 a night and they have free Internet access. If you are a computer nut like I am you like this.

I love the kid pool and while it is a one block walk, it is right next to the Mimi's Cafe which I love.

Most recently... HoJo
Everything was great. Check mousesavers for a good rate. The walk is about 10 minutes to 15 minutes from room to entrance.

2003, 2001 - Anabella
We like this hotel the first time we stayed, felt the HoJo was better for aminities. The room we had in 2001 was great (king bed, sofa, small room with a daybed), Fridge, small patio out front. The romm we had 2003 was terrible, small and the queen bed was more like a double and had a dip in the middle, no patio out front or fridge. The walk to DL was much more pleasent then from the HOJO.

2002 - Fairfield Inn (Marriotts)
This was ok. Just about a small block closer then the Hojo's.

2002 - Paradise Pier
Not the best of the Disney run resorts, but you do have your own entrance to DCA (after crossing a busy street). Would only suggest if you get a good rate

2002 - DGC
Love this hotel...

We will be going to Disneyland on the 9/27. We are staying at Best Western Park Place Inn & Mini Suite for 4 nites and then moving to Best Western Raffles Inn. Will report when we get back.

Unfortunately, not any more.!! They "discontinued the private entrance to DCA for PPH guest - probably cost cutting measure. You can walk up the block and use the GC's exclusive entrance.
