Where did you get married?

In a park where people usually got for wedding pics/Prom Pics etc. Married by a mayor.

We knew we didn't want a religious wedding either. We got married in a lovely art gallery. It was perfect for us!

We got married in a garden overlooking the ocean at a hotel in California. Even though we are religious, we really wanted to be married outdoors, so our minister came to the hotel to perform the ceremony. :)

I haven't read all the other posts and I got married in a traditional wedding in a church. My sister, however, for her second wedding got married at the top of a ski slope and after they said "I do" they ski'ed down to the bottom.

Dh and I were married in the church that we met in (third grade Sunday school class) and our families attended. However, if I could do it all over again, we would get married on a tropical beach either somewhere in the Caribbean or Hawaii with just our immediate families present. I totally regret having a church wedding and spent the entire time stressed out about everything being "perfect."

Whatever location you choose, my advice would be to relax, enjoy the day and have fun!!

We got married at the Wedding Bowl in La Jolla, CA.

This isn't our wedding, but it is such a gorgeous location.

We stayed at the Marriott on Collins Road last spring and there were a couple weddings there when we were there. The atrium is really pretty, good parking, food on site and several choices for banquet room sizes. Another thought would be out by the Amana Colonies. Some of the buildings out there would make really nice backdrops for pictures anyway.

I lived in Ohio at the time, and we drove to Pigeon Forge, TN to be married in an adorable chapel on a mountain. I think the whole thing including pictures cost me $300. It was January so we decided it'd be fun to have a skiing honeymoon. A huge snowstorm hit the day of our wedding. We had a snowball fight in our wedding clothes. It was so much fun.

And of course, I won! ;)

ETA: We are also non-religious, and they gave us a ceremony to match. :)

Here's where we were married...link

We also are a "non-religious" couple, and we got married 15 years ago in April () at a place called "Moody Chapel" here in Maine. Here's a picture of it:

It was well worth the money we paid to use it, too! Gorgeous inside and out :lovestruc In fact we drove by it not too long ago with DD14 and her boyfriend in the back seat, and we pointed it out. Boyfriend says casually "huh, that's nice. We should get married there." We didn't drive off the road, but it was a close thing!

We got married at Disney World, and it was perfect for us! While we are religious and wanted our faith to play an important role in our ceremony, Disney is certainly able to accommodate any type of ceremony you'd like. There are lots of officiants on a list you can choose from. And I'll always cherish the memories of getting married at my favorite place! :)

Many reception venues have areas where you can get married there too. We had our wedding and reception at an old building that is now used for concert recitals. Upstairs is a theater type area where the ceremony was held. Downstairs is an banquet area where the reception was.

Many people aren't affiliated with a church and venues have made great alternatives available.

We got married and had our reception in a country club overlooking a golf course. They set up the big room for the wedding then when everything was done, we all split up to take pictures and get drinks etc while they reset the room for the reception. It was GREAT because no one has to drive to a new location for the reception.

DH and I got married in our church - so not much help for you.

But...DB and SIL got married at the local Grange/Mooselodge/whatever it was called in the back yard, under the great blue sky and held the reception in the pavilion behind the lodge. They had badminton, volleyball, frisbees, boccee, kickball and horseshoes as activities and served all you can eat BBQ and cake. The flowers came from a local nursery and were in pots that hung from the ceiling and sat on the tables and she replanted them after. They were married by a minister who wore a pink boa and a T-shirt that said "THE REV". The bride and groom and all the members of the wedding party wore Tie-Dye (and the guys all wore Fezes). They had 150 guests including all the kids and the whole thing including the food and clothing and... cost them only $1,500 (in 2003). And it was the most fun I ever had at a wedding and everyone who attended still talks about it.

DH and I are also not religious. However, we don't have any issues with any religions either, so getting married in a church was no different for us from getting married anywhere else (plus, it comes with a complete lack of familial complaints about not getting married in a church). We chose to get married in the chapel located at the living history site where I worked for a brief time during college. My mother also worked there during her college years and my parents were married in the same chapel. I liked that it was a place with "history", both in general and for our families. Outdoors was not a consideration because we live in Michigan and I've seen far too many outdoor weddings here ruined by the weather. It did, in fact, rain on my wedding day, proving that I made the correct choice.

Our reception was at the large hall associated with the site. Very pretty and historic.

We were married in a Buddhist Temple in Houston, Texas. It was wonderful and I wouldnt have had it any other way!

DH and I are non religon people so a church was out for us. We got married at this local restaurant that used to be a home that had a lovely garden out front with a pretty gazebo...it was small and lovely and best of all didn't really need any extra decor as the area was pretty enough on it's own. Then our reception was held downtown at a small reception hall that used to be my favorite coffeeshop! It was perfect...

We were married in the garden of the restaurant where we had the reception. At first I was a little upset, I really wanted to get married on the beach, but this just made more sense. It was Disney themed, I walked down the isle to when you wish upon a star. When I was looking at my wedding video, it was magical. The background was a stone wall with flowers hanging down, it looked like a castle wall, the perfect backdrop for the music. At the beginning I was too upset to see it was the perfect location for our wedding.

We got married on the beach at Bluebeard's Beach Club in St. Thomas.
