Where did the VIP codes come from?

Last night I was gifted a vip code and now I have the lovely badge under my title. If I remeber correctly these codes from a park quest but I'm not sure. Does anyone know when and where these codes came from exactly?

when you completed 3 quests at WDW / DLR you were given that card. You were then entitled to take a free tour if you wanted to do the haunted / pirate quest.

I am surprised there are still codes out there, that was very nice of your friend that is worth quite a bit!!

it was only in the first year, they cancelled it after christmas sometime, maybe as of the new year.
