Where CAN You Wear A Hat?

Common sense and good manners are becoming increasing rare. Good taste is also in short supply.

There was once a time when tattoos and warts on women were considered undesirable.

There was a recent thread about where you cannot wear a hat at WDW.I am still not clear about where you CAN wear a hat at WDW.Can you wear a hat on the Disney buses,on the Friendship Taxis,in the resort food courts,in the resort check-in areas,in indoor attractions like Spaceship Earth,in merchandise shops, etc. or are ALL indoor areas at WDW off-limits for hats? Thanks.

If you're sitting in front of someone at an attraction, please be courteous and remove your hat. And removing hats/caps when dining is generally considered socially acceptable.

Beyond that, when it makes sense (coaster or other fast-moving ride) for safety of yourself and/or others.

I think warts on women are still considered undesirable, tatoos are debatable. Some folks like em and some folks don't.

I do agree that good taste is in short supply, sometimes when I step into the local Walmart (which trust me is not often), I feel as though I have stepped into a parallel universe and I'm an alien.

No offense to Walmart shoppers, I shop there too!

The thing about tattoos is that it really isn't someone else's business if a woman- or ANYONE- wants to put one on their body. I personally don't agree with the hat issue- it doesn't effect me if someone chooses to wear one in a restaurant. However, it's something that some people are bothered by and can be removed. A tattoo however is NOT removable and doesn't concern anyone else. If you don't like my ink then don't look!

ETA- this was just a response, nothing personal. Didn't want it to be perceived that way.

I'm not sure what kind of hat you are talking about, but a baseball hat adds little in terms of a persons height. :confused3

This is quite possibly the strangest thread I've ever read on the DIS. I admit I don't read too much...... and I pick and choose what applies.... but... OH MY GOSH!

If the HAT POLICE are going to enforce proper hat wearing etiquette at WDW then I'll have to insist that the NO WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY rule be enforced at WDW as well. It only seems fair!

I remove my hat in restaurants, and also in almost all of the attractions at WDW. At shows I remove it so as to make it easier for those sitting behind me to see. And I remove it while on any ride where I might want to see what's above me, and that includes almost all of them.

Unless the hat looks like this, Im cool with hats inside buildings. I dont wanna see your sweaty hat head. :lmao:

Now thats a hat!:thumbsup2 Imagine trying to stow that thing under your seat during a ride.:lmao:

Personally I don't keep a hat on because of hat hair, it's that I'm afraid I may blind others with my constantly receding hairline! The reflection off of my ever growing forehead has been know to reflect the sun and cause planes to land. I even think it can be seen from space. :scared1:

Actually it is written on the tag of children's hats.:rotfl:

I suggest you don't buy one of those as it probably won't fit very well. :hippie:

Good Luck Hat shopping.
Oh, I can barely get a ten gallon bucket to fit on my noggin, nevermind a child's hat. Trying to squeeze a child's hat onto my head is like trying to put one of those little doggy sweaters onto an elephant! :lmao:

We wear hats just about everywhere. We do take them off inside of restaurants, and on the faster rides, or at the water parks, but other than that... they stay on.

My dh takes his hat off when we are at a sit down restaurant and for the National Anthem.

If I am wearing a baseball cap, I don't take it off at all. The reason I don't is because my hair is through the hole in the back so if I take the hat off, then my hair underneath is going to be an ugly sight indeed. I think it would look worse once I took the hat off rather than if I left it on.

If I know ahead of time that we are going to sit down to eat, then I just don't wear a hat. If it is a spur of the moment thing...then oh well, hat stays on.

I find it an outdated type of ettiquette thing. I mean, it does look better to be hatless at a nice dinner, kind of like men with hairy armpits to wear tank tops to a nice dinner, but I don't see it as a sign of disrespect or anything like that.

Well it is outdated in the same way a gentleman opening a door for a woman is outdated. It isn't! (As shown by the way the Air Force makes sure all their cadets learn when and where to take off a hat).

Certainly during the summer almost everyone wears a hat at WDW, this goes without saying and I don't think anyone says you shouldn't. I think when you enter a building and are just going to be walking around then there is no need to take it off (unless of course you are military, then it has been drilled into your head to do so and it comes off without thinking regardless of what your hair looks like). But when you sit in a show you should take off your hat as a matter of politeness to the person behind you (believe me Ive been behind people who could care less if they blocked the view because they didn't think twice about their hat).

And as for eating, if you are in a sit down restaurant there is no excuse not to take off your hat. Etiquette books and internet sites alike agree that wearing a hat at the table shows poor manners. I make all my kids take off their hats every time we sit down to eat while we are at WDW. No questions, and I don't care if their hair is a mess..... they can go to the bathroom and brush it if it bothers them but they won't sit there with a hat perched on their head as if no one has bothered to teach them manners.

I say depending on the cruiseline because we sail Carnival, and trust me someone wearing a hat in the dining room is the least of their problems. I have seen it all.

Still we love Carnival and will continue to sail with them.

I don't know about DCL, but I will find out in July 2009!

Becca,
You will have a great time on DCL:) We've done the Magic three times and the Wonder once. They are our favorites. You will see lots of families dressed very nice. Lots of matching Disney attire..Cute! Not so sure about hats in the dining room!! lol
Have a great cruise!

I started reading this thread many hours ago and then just got back to it so I may have missed someone saying this in previous posts.

Ok -- in the "olden days" which unfortunately I was a part of (ha ha), women WORE hats to show respect (the covering of their hair though those pill box ones didn't do that!) and men REMOVED their hats to show respect. Neither of these "hats" would be baseball caps because they were worn ONLY by baseball players at the baseball parks. (Look at old pics - what were the CROWDS wearing).

Ladies hats were PINNED on and my mom still has two lovely hats in a hat box in pristine condition. Pinning on hats made it impossible to remove -- plus the wearing of them meant respect.

Anyway ... it doesn't really bother me if hats are left on - (except I will say ABSOLUTELY NOT during the National Anthem)... but just thought that would explain the etiquette behind it.

Now recently at a sporting event my DH noted that the announcer used to say (before the National Anthem), "Gentlemen, please remove your hats" & now they say "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remove your hats" -- so the world is indeed changing. Hats are just used differently today.

Happy debating! Don't be too mean to each other! :thumbsup2

Personally I don't hold the eating utensil in my first while eating, while wearing a hat. I just grunt and hold the plate up to my mouth. "Ugh! Food good!" :lmao:

OMG, I almost fell out of my chair! This struck me as about the funniest thing I've heard in a while! It has to be a sarcastic NJ thing!

Besides wearing my hat, I also pick my teeth, burp and make other rude noises while at the dinner table! (I guess that's what everyone thinks of me, once they see the hat) :rotfl:

Question for the military folks. Do females have to remove their hats in the military?

Who considers warts desirable now :confused3
Warts have always been undesirable on both sexes.

[QUOTE

If in doubt, it is best for a gentleman to remove his hat indoors as soon as practical.
It is considered a sign of contempt and/or disrespect to leave your hat on when it would be proper to remove it.[/QUOTE]

Indeed.
And you would be surprised at the number of unpatriotic, hat-wearing men who keep their hats/caps on during flag ceremonies on Main Street. I always yell: "uncover!"
