Here is the deal, we are going to be buying a new AP for DH for our trip next April. He currently has a FL resident seasonal pass that expires at the end of this month, but since we are no longer FL residents and because we will not be at the world until April, we are going to let his pass lapse and buy him a new one in April.

We have a one day ticket that we would like to trade in towards the AP.

Here is the meat of my question, do we have to do to a DVC resort in order to buy an AP with the DVC discount and can we use the one day ticket towards buying the pass?

I'm asking because we are staying at a value for 2 nights before we check into SSR and we will need his AP for those 2 days. It would be much easier for us to buy the AP at the gate or at POP concierge, than have to shlep over to a DVC resort when we don't have a car (of course BLT is open now, so maybe that could be an idea). I know you can buy APs over the phone, but we couldn't apply the value of the one day ticket in that case, right?

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

You can purchase an AP with the DVC discount at any theme park ticket window or guest services location including those at Downtown Disney. The resorts do not sell APs. You need your membership card and photo ids for all adults showing the same address as the member. Yes, you would need to purchase on-site to apply the value of the 1 day ticket.

Thanks so much! This will save us a lot of running around! :) This is our first experience with not being FL residents :sad1: but I'm happy we can still get a discount on our APs!

We did this last year. We had 4 one day passes that we upgraded to 4 annual passes with DVC discount.:)...We did this at guest services in DTD.

One tip though...check the dates on your new AP when you get it. I didn't check ours and the next day we tried to use them for the first time we got turned away at the turnstile!....The cast member at DTD had put the wrong year on our AP's...so the CM at the turnstile thought our passes had expired!!:scared1:

So after waiting at Dis studios for 40 mins and being front of the line at the turnstiles...we were sent to guest services to sort it out...then sent to the BACK of the VERY long line to get in!....i was NOT happy!:rolleyes1

Just bought my DVC discounted AP for the first time on Aug 2,2009 @ DTD Guest Services (which has moved since Feb 2009!). anyway, make sure that you have ID's for all adults in your party! The line was a little wait, nothing compared to what you may have to wait at the parks! The expiration date is exactly 1 year to the date of purchase. I thought it was to expire from the first day you actually used it, but I didn't use mine until Aug 3...just fyi.

It's one year from the time you get the actual pass. So if you order over the phone or online, you will get a voucher. The year starts when you exchange the voucher for the actual pass. If you buy onsite as the poster above did, it starts immediately.
