Where can I get Perogies?

I've eaten at lots of different restuarants and never encountered Pierogis (or in Lithuania, they were called Kolaches). Has anyone else?

State College, PA. My Uncle John is known as Mr. Perogie there. :thumbsup2

You can get them in any Polish Deli in the NY/NJ area! I've also had them at the F & W fest.

Kolaches are different than pierogies, no? Kolaches have a pastry-like dough, whereas pierogies have a pasta type dough.

To the OP: it appears that Biergarten has "potato dumplings" which are probably the closest thing you'll find outside of the Food & Wine Fest or bringing in your own box of Mrs. Ts :lmao:

The Biergarten's potato dumplings are nothing like pierogies. They're balls of mashed potatoes mixed with flour that have been boiled. No dough.

I grew up in Alberta and Perogies were a virtual staple of our diet! Yummy Cheemo perogies...boiled and then fried with onions and Kielbasa...heaven!! :goodvibes

Last year the Polish display at the Food and Wine Festival had them and i'm hoping they will be there this year. I'm saving every single snack point on the dining plan for the Festival!

Luckily there have been tens of thousands of Poles who have moved to London since they joined the EU so lots of Polish shops popping up all over the place...bringing, I hope, lots of perogies!

a real hole in the wall place with the best pierogi's in the world (like 15 different kinds!) I love the beef & the potato & cheese boiled & then sauteed w/butter & lots of onions. The kids like the blueberry & apple cinnamon ones w/powdered sugar for breakfast!!! YUMMY!!!!

BTW - Simba's Mom got the spelling right - 10 points :thumbsup2

I also had the pierogis at F&W Festival last year...yummy. Hope they are there this year.

And yes, kolaches are more pastry like, usually with poppy seed or raspberry filling, or cheese even.

I am from Chicago originally and am Polish so was used to my grandmother making them. Luckily DH has the family recipes and still makes them.

There is now a chain restaurant called "The Kolache Factory" which has something resembling kolaches in a fast food style. Not like the real thing, but not bad.

Come on over I can make you some. My Grandma taught me how to make them with a juice cup as my dough cutter. I only make potato and cheese though(and it is farmer cheese- no cheddar here...) I'll fry you some up with some onions if you like.
In the world though I have not come across them.

Ya gotta love Polish people  . Willing and able to make pieroges for strangers. Now that's heart!

The food and wine festival has them almost every year- I think plain potato. My favorites are homemade mushroom and onion and potato, onion and cheddar. When I was in FL, a few boxes of frozen would get me my fix, though. Mrs. T's makes Bacon, Potato and Cheese ones that are pretty good! :cheer2:

Any entrepreneurs out there? There's a market for some great pierogis!

Dad taught me too! We like the potatoe / cheese. But use "dry cottage cheese" kinda hard to find but worth the trouble. Sooooooo excited to read about them at F&W festival. Was this in a polish stand? Located where on WS? I hope they don't taste like the stores frozen ones here. Homemade just do not compare.
