Where can I buy fish/seafood that is not from China?

I avoid food from China because of their world renowned quality control.

We buy some things for our business that we cannot buy from anywhere else. What I have learned is that the QC is available from there if you require it.

Just out of curiosity, why are we avoiding Chinese fish?

I try to avoid buying any food that's not from the US, just because many other countries have less strict food standards, etc. and the threat of salmonella, e coli, etc. That's just me though, I know many people don't really care where their food is from.

Me either, maybe "THE MYSTERY MACHINE" can explain since it is their description.

I did above. I think they used to feed the fish "part animal waste" as part of their "fish feed" and that is where they got the name "poop eaters".

However I also heard that they would put the tilapia in the tanks to clean them.

Not sure what is the truth or fiction as I do not work at a fish farm.;)

a friend of the family who works at the local supermarket fish counter told us that MOST fish from the grocery store comes in frozen, is thawed & sold as fresh. Think about it. If you live in the middle of the country, or pretty far from an ocean, how can "fresh" fish arrive?

We have local docks & have watched the commercial guys come in with scallops, swordfish, etc etc & yes they arrive on the boat on ice, but what doesn't get sold locally immediately gets flash frozen & distributed around the world. It's pretty amazing!

We have a Whole Foods about 35 miles from here that I want to go check out!

Be careful with Whole Foods. They sell Atlantic salmon. It was dyed.

I also find the same organic brands our stores sell and it is considerably more. Organic soup is still full of salt.

If you have a Trader Joe's anywhere nearby, I recommend their frozen fish. They have a lot of wild caught, and are really good about labeling where stuff comes from. All I have in my freezer right now is some "Hake in Papillote" which says Product of France.

I know their shrimp, and their organic produce all comes from Mexico. Which could be considered almost local to me in NM, but would still rather have it from CA. Or better yet, from the Farmer's Market in the summer! Not much local fish here though.

Wanted to add, Costco sells some good frozen fish too. Recently bought a bag of individually flash frozen wild Alaskan King Salmon.
