We are planning on cruising the western on Jan 18th and wondering if anyone heard of any good airfare rates. We are a fam of 4 and another fam of 3 traveling from Providence area.

Some people thought we should wait until last minute to try and purchase tickets. Is Jan 18th still considered holiday travel period?

any help is apreciated.....budget is an issue or we have to drive!!! yuk!

We will be on the Jan 18th cruise too, and hoping to fly out of Providence. I live on the Cape and so far the cheapest I have seen is out of Boston, but I'm waiting for Southwest to extend their schedule to see about a dealout of Prov. We will be flying out on the 17th though, with my luck it would snow if we waited till the morning of the cruise to fly. Maybe we will see you there. It will be me my daughter and a couple of friends of mine (husband, wife).

We'll be leaving the ship as you arrive. That is a holiday weekend but not a MAJOR one. It's a little eary for good airfare, I think. I've got a travel watch on Travelocity, so I'm watching the fares daily. They have been fairly low off and on but not yet for January. :( Still I'm hopeful for the near future.

If I were you, I would start right now watching the fares. Check every couple days, and use a couple different sources. For instance, I purchased airfare for this coming January to Orlando last March, and got it at 247 per person, which is a good price from Cedar Rapids. Typically folks in our are pay $400 plus to fly out of CR, so I think it pays to buy early when you can get a good price.

I also will be sailing on January 18th. We plan on flying out of Providence too. Usually Southwest releases January dates in October. Last year we paid only $74/pp. So hold on they usually have some great internet deals.

I would highly recommend that everyone leave at least a day earlier. We did the 7 day two years ago and we had a major snowstorm and our flight was cancelled and we had a hard time finding another flight causing us almost to miss the ship. So this year we are flying out on Thursday night.

I will be sailing with DH and our 3 children ages 6, 8 and 4.

We always go the day before too. Especially in winter months the weather in Iowa can be pretty unpredictable, and it is worth the peace of mind by going a day ahead and not getting all worked up about making it to the ship on time.

it is not wise to wait until the last minute,,,
that's not how domestic airfares work....
watch for fares now and the moment you see something reasonably inexpensive, grab it...

We also will be on the 1/18/03 Western! There will be 6 adults and my DGS age 4. We will be flying from LA on the 14th to spend a few days in Disneyworld before the cruise. When I put in the dates at Southwest and American websites I got really good fares ($200 rt.) and presumed that I could have booked them. I'm not quite ready to book airline reservations yet.

If you found $200 from LAX to MCO book now. I go every Jan. and can tell you later on you may only be able to find $450.

5 years in a row in Jan. NEVER paying more than $220 RT. Once $160 RT

$200 from LA to MCO is fantastic. I just looked at January fares from NY to MCO and the cheapest I could find was on Delta for $211 pp.

In April we purchased 3 round trip from Indy to Orlando - $228, the price about a week ago went to $136.50 (nice drop!) so I called Delta and was given a voucher for future travel. I suggest getting your tickets early but watching (like a hawk) the site so you can take advantage of any price decrease.

This can work in the opposite direction also - my tickets for December increased over $50 from the time I bought them. But I continue to watch the Delta website hoping!

Kind of like a treasure hunt for bargains!
