Where are all the VB owners?

I submitted a post earlier, asking questions about VB and I have yet to receive an answer. Is there anybody out there who can help me? We are very excited about going to VB, but we also want to be prepared for the negative aspects since we will be going during Easter season. Any information as to what the resort is like during premier seasons would be very helpful.

Has anyone been there during Easter and if yes, how bad are the crowds? Do children programs get filled very quickly? Long lines for minature golf and pool slide? Will it be impossible to get ressies for a 1 bedroom at the 7 month window? If yes, how about studios? Does anyone know of a VB owner who would like to trade for OKW points? I would love to hear from an experienced Vero Beacher.

I haven't actually stayed at Vero during Easter but you can figure that it is the most popular time of year to visit Florida in general and the Vero area in particular. Holiday times are also popular with repeat visitors -- folks who like to spend every Easter at a certain destination. However, you never know until you call what is or is not available. It certainly wouldn't be hopeless to think a reservation might be available.

When the resort is fully booked, as I'm sure it would be at Easter, you will probably experience lines. However, they would not be overwhelming since the resort is just not that big overall.

We are VB owners and were there for the eight days just before the Easter Weekend this year, 2002. We left on Wednesday, two days before Good Friday.

While VB was reported as full, I did not think it was overcrowded. The pool was busy, and you had to look to find two pool chairs together that did not have towels on them, but we were always able to find space. The longest line for the pool slide that I saw was eight kids, and that was because one adult was stopped at the top showing a kid the view. The campfire had a lot of people, but not to the point where anyone couldn't get into the campfire area or hear the cast members.

We didn't have any significant problem of delays for any meals at Shutters or the more formal restaurant (I forget the name). No waits in the morning for breakfast, less than 10 minutes at lunch or dinner. The only time we saw a wait problem was for the porch at the bar during the afternoon, as people would be seated inside waiting to move to the tables outside, and others would come up from the outside stairs and sit at an empty table before it was cleared.

The staff told me the overcrowding problems would be with the restaurant on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, as it is open to the public and many local town residents / vistors call for reservations and eat at VB. They planned to open one or more of the adjacent convention rooms and set it up to serve a meal. Longer term, VB may have to look at a way to give DVC members staying on site some type of preference for reservations for holiday meals.

There were more people in the elevators and Inn hallways, and more children playing in the hallways when the evenings were cool. It didn't really annoy us in terms of noise, although I wouldn't have let my kids play kickball unsupervised in the hallway.

With the closing of the DVC sales desks at VB and the change in room use mix to more DVC members on points as more of the units are sold inventory, I got the impression that the convention rooms and the large lobby spaces were very underutilized. I think this is for two reasons: 1) they don't have overnight rooms to offer to the convention crowd and 2) they sized the lobby and meeting rooms for a full resort, and then decided to cancel the building plans for the across the road units.

One thing we did learn - the smoke from people at the tables on the open porch at the bar is very obvious on the balcony of the thrid floor rooms immediately adjacent to the bar porch. We had to leave our balcony and close the door on two days, even though our room was a designated non-smoking room. Otherwise no problems.
Hope this helps answer some of your questions.

We were at VB Easter week 2001, and had very similar experience to Cap. You will want to ensure you get an early start to the pool to reserve your spot.. I went out at 9am and nearly every chair had a towel on it... (WHICH I REALLY HATE:mad: ) No people, just towels. So I made it a rpactice to go out around 8 and SIT in my chairs to hold them til the DF got there. Shutters was busy, and you will want PS's if you plan to go during typical meal times. Other than that, I didn't notice significant issues.

I will say I think Easter is one of the BEST times to go. During our week only 1 day was cold enough to preclude swimming for us (GA folks), and there were no bugs or opressive heat. Our 2001 trip FORCED us to buy VB add-on :)

We will be there in 3 weeks!

Doug

dougmatt, we just might run into you! DH, DS, and I are taking our very first DVC trip and will spend 4 nights at Vero starting June 1st. I can't wait!

The information was very helpful. The best thing for me is to always find out the negatives, so I am prepared and not disappointed. VB sounds wonderful and we can't wait.

I think I am going to submit another message asking about getting ressies at the 7 month window, because I just realized that VB owners would not have that experience.

Once again, thank you.

We were at VB from Sunday, one week before Easter to the Friday before Easter. I like to sleep in when I go on vacations and it was hard to do because I had to get up and get a chair or two at the pool by about 7:30 a.m. I complained to some manager out by the pool area that I thought it was ridiculous that people save chairs by laying out towels and many of those people didn't use those chairs until noon or 1:00. It would be nice if Disney would have some enforcement regarding this issue.

I wonder if I could pack minature beach chairs or maybe the portable soccer mom chairs. They are not as good as a lounge chair but they are better then nothing.

Thanks!

I don't remember seeing anyone in portable chairs at the pool, but they would definitely come in handy at the beach. It's either that or pay $25 (1.5 year ago price) to rent an umbrella and chairs at the beach.. I am almost to the point that if I go down there after 10 and chairs are reserved as such, I will be thankful for someone holding a chair for me. Last time we were there, the chairs next to us were held ALL DAY with noone ever sitting in them. I finally gave them away to someone who was wondering around looking lost :D :D :D . To me placing a towel you do not own, on a chair you do not own, is unacceptable (and a felony!) . blah blah blah. I think we already had a whole couple of threads on this topic WAY back, but suffice it to say, if you don't get there early, you won't get a seat!

mic_KY_mouses - WOW your first DVC trip! AND I notice you are W/L for HH... BEWARE!!!! I went to VB... Added on.... Went to HH.... Added on... :) :) :) It can be hazardous to your wallet! BTW I PM'd you. Maybe we will :bounce: :Pinkbounc bump into each other :) We will be there the same time!

Doug

Dougmatt, thanks for the nice post. I PM'd you as well!!! May the next two weeks fly by quickly for us all!!!!!

We were at Vero for Easter 2002. We arrived the Saturday before and stayed until Wednesday. The resort was confortably crowded. We did find chairs by the pool every day and we usually didn't get there until lunch time. There was a slight wait at the pool bar but nothing awful. The kids played miniature golf everyday and had no problems. We enjoyed the campfire and playing basketball across the street. The pool was slightly crowded but okay. We made reservations at the 11 month window but had friends that made reservations late and were wait listed but got the reservation in the end. I would recommend Vero, very relaxing!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

MSdisney53,

Was the pool so crowded that you feared a safety issue? Were kids jumping on top of each other? We are going to WDW for 3 days before and we just want to relax for 4 days after. I think a week at WDW at Easter would exhaust us.

Vero sounds like my kind of place, I just hope I don't like it so much that I will want to add-on.

Thanks,

D. B. Kelly

PS Can you give me recommendations for a room request. We will be staying in a 1 bedroom. Should we be on the top floor to see the ocean? Can I even get an ocean view?
