where are all the teenagers at?

Where have all the teenagers gone?

I hear they're busy running through people's backyards and hiding behind cars in driveways! ;)

Most kids I know grew up with parents having contracts paying for professional services to snow plow, shovel, mow and maintain the lawn - do all the outside stuff. The kids I know simply don't have to shovel - in fact the idea to go around and offer to shovel probably never occurred to them, and the parents don't encourage it here either.

Probably most homes here pay for professsional services, so most don't need kids to shovel anymore.

I think a lot of it is that the parents give these kids everything without the kid having to "earn' it. Why would they want to go out and shovel snow when they have the things they want?

I am still trying to wrap my head around why my neighbor was outside shoveling snow, when her boyfriend was inside playing on the computer? Because he knew she would do it, so therefor he doesn't have to.

That's whole different thread

i live in florida, so no snow.
while watching the reports on all the snow everywhere, my kids were talking about how much money they could make if we lived there!!!
they would actually expect us to MOVE, just so they could shovel snow!!! they're always trying to come up with little ways to make money!!!

Sexist? ;)

No, I just think he needs to step up to the plate instead of his only contribution is to help knock her up and then live off of her after only knowing her for 2 months. I am just kooky that way.

See, I told you it was a whole different thread. BUt he is a lot like a teenager, or wants the care free life of no responsibilty.

I was just joking... :goodvibes

Because they can't text and shovel at the same time.

My DD can jog on the treadmill and text at the same time so I am willing to bet she could shovel and text. We don't live in a state that gets snow so I guess we will never know but don't underestimate a teens texting capabilities. :rotfl2:

Mine are in school. We have snow but school was still in session anyway!

Let me give ya an example of why you might not worry yourself so much about it:

I'm snowbound which has put a dent in my gym time. So yesterday I said, "heck, I can burn as much or as many calories shoveling snow." So that's what I did. DH and boys sat inside on the computer because I WANTED to be out there. And sure as shootin there comes the nosey neighbor inquiring upon my oh-so-strong male family members.

He does the same when I mow. Purty little thing like me can't get her nails dirty I suppose.

Again, don't worry about it.

I'm 17. I shoveled out my own driveway today. As tedious and not-tiring as it was, my back still hurts. Most of my friends shovel out theirs. Sorry we don't do your work for you, even if we would get paid.

I guess its attitudes like this OP are the reason you don't see it.
No offense HSMndLK, its nothing against you, just a testimony to the attitude that teens see shoveling as the homeonwers work and not theirs. Of course not all feel that way, some do see it as an opportunity to work and get paid because they are willing to do whatever it takes to make money. Obviously you and many others don't feel that they need to take that opportunity, and there isn't anything wrong with that. I wouldn't have shoveled my neighboors driveway either when I was a teen :rolleyes1

in my day when there was a lot of snow meant money time. shoveling clearing off their cars etc. i dont see no teenagers outside making money or at least get some fresh air playing in it, get away from the video games and the internet for a little while and make some money. and where are all these people who say they cant find a job this will be a perfect time to make some money under the table. im talking about the young people who say they cant find a job. if your older of course it will be bad on your back etc.

Maybe the teens understand the value of a good education and are taking advantage of the time off in order to study.
