Where are all the men?

You know it's Cinderella based on her dress but you have to try a little harder to convince someone that it's Prince Charming in his more generic prince outfit.

It's possible, but I'm not sure how much this really plays out. Each prince has a unique outfit, and they show up in other events frequently enough that most recognize who they are (especially since they almost always appear with their princess). With Dream Along having ended, Snow Prince is the only one who doesn't appear regularly anymore.

ETA: I forgot about Fantasmic! Snow Prince does appear with Snow in this show

I am so glad we met Tiana and Naveen - I'm disappointed to hear he isn't meeting anymore. He was one of my favorite interactions with a face character (Aladdin in 2012 will still be my favorite, though. That Aladdin made our whole trip by being awesome.)

LOL what?! They actually change the names and storylines of their movies to appeal to the boys (Frozen, Tangled, etc). What about Marvel and Star Wars? And entertainment panders to the male audience, so I see nothing wrong with Disney making movies that little girls can enjoy.

And as for your second paragraph, that is so incorrect on so many levels.
I think its silly to think that Disney animated movies are predominantly geared towards boys. Its geared towards little girls obviously. That is the reason Disney acquired Marvel and Star Wars and even somewhat Pixar. There is nothing wrong with that however. If you wanna make a movie for nothing but girls thats fine with me. Let the artist make what they wanna make. But to think that Disney movies were geared towards boys and they just happen to make ones that appeal to girls too, is just silly.

I never cared about the princesses when I was younger, but I loved meeting fur characters. I still do. I'm also a big Tangled and Frozen fan now, so I do want to meet Rapunzel and Anna and Elsa one day. Some good points were brought up earlier in the thread, so I won't reiterate those, but also, by only having select characters like Flynn Ryder and Jack Sparrow at the hard-ticket events, Disney gives themselves the opportunity to earn more money on the chance that people will attend the party to meet those characters. By having them out on a regular basis, they're less likely to attract people to the hard-ticket events because there's less 'unique character meet and greet' opportunities.

Oh I agree that the cartoons have been geared towards girls since the late 80s, but I disagreed with that user claiming that Disney ONLY panders to the female audience, which is complete nonsense.

I agree with that, now a days. That was the reason they acquired those companies. Because of the criticism they recieved from typically only having princess movies. Today, at least in the movies part, disney does have stuff for boys in the pixar/marvel/star wars departments. So at least they are trying. And they are building star wars land/toy story land. Which, imo, is geared towards boys

Yeah I agree. I am actually surprised they don't have a Star Wars character meal at WDW...I think that would be a huge money maker for them!

They had that sort of at Sci Fi dine in last year during Star Wars weekends. Not sure how it did or why they havent continued it. Maybe they are waiting for the new star wars land to open because where would you put it at HS? Only place open for breakfast is Hollywood & Vine and they have the character stuff for that. Plus I dont think they want any extra capacity at HS at the moment

We have met the following:
Prince Charming
Prince Phillip
Aladdin
Peter Pan
Jack Sparrow
Gaston
Flynn Ryder
Burt from Mary Poppins
Prince Naveen
Mad Hatter

Yeah, good point there. :magnify:

But I'd rather see Disney going away from the such distinct division in Girls and Boys experiences. But focus more on Magical experiences for all. :flower1:

Of course with Princesses, but also the Princes too. And Pirate buccaneers and buccarettes (!). :yay:

I know that many boys want to meet and greet too. And I think that a Prince together with a Princess at the meet and greets will show kids that male and female characters are equally important.

And in a more practical sense for Disney, an additional character could take the peaks off the crowds in line for one Princess, if you can pose with a Prince too. :crowded:

:tinker:

Disney cut the princes (and even non face sidekicks) over the years for one reason only. Why pay for 2 characters when you can get away with paying for just one? And let's face it, more people would complain about Sleeping Beauty being gone than complain about Prince Philip being gone.

I'm sure when Star Wars Land opens we will have more Star Wars walk arounds {though not necessarily TRUE Face Characters}

In California they have Marvel characters but due to universal contracts we had Star Lord at a hard ticket and some industry events

I remember years ago when Prince Caspian came out and they had the Narnia walk through at DHS {maybe even it's last days of MGM at that point in time} Caspian did a M&G

Out of that list I believe only Aladdin, Peter Pan and Gaston can be met reliably in the parks right now. Throw in character meals at resorts and you can add Charming and Mad Hatter.

Honestly, if you are into characters, you really need to visit during hard ticket party season.

I've seen him mentioned a couple times, who is "Snow Prince"?

I think that's exactly right. People are probably going to line up for the princess all by herself but are they going to line up for the prince all by himself? The princesses are more easily recognizable and easier to differentiate than princes. There are certainly going to be Disney fans who know which prince is which but I think anyone even someone who hasn't seen all the Disney movies might know Cinderella from Snow White for example.

Plus, the prince's appearance isn't going to move costumes in the shops the same way the princess's appearance will.

Snow White's prince. He doesn't have an official name (though of the originals, Phillip is technically the only one with a name. I'm not sure when Charming became official since it's not in the movie. Even Beast doesn't have an official Prince name)

When he autographs, he simply signs "The Prince"

Yes. Charming was out wandering a while back and had a constant crowd with him.

There are plenty of people who won't recognize the princes, and there are plenty who call every prince "Prince Charming"
But there are also far too many people who call Elliot "Puff" during the electrical parade, yet Disney keeps him and Pete there.
