Want to do the boat or someplace we can walk to(outside the park) for dinner while we're at DHS. We plan on returning to the park, so I need something convenient and close for travel.

Anywhere at Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan or Dolphin.

Anywhere at the Boardwalk.

Epcot World Showcase if you have hoppers.

There are a ton of choices.

The closest would be the restaurants at the Swan & Dolphin, and I can highly recommend Shula's and Todd English's bluezoo. :thumbsup2

we like big river grille on the boardwalk. and have enjoyed several meals at the yachtsman steakhouse. don't forget about beaches n cream!:yay: sometimes it is faster to walk than waiting/taking the boat

You can walk to Boardwalk faster than the boat but they run at 10 minute intervals so you won't beat them to Swan & Dolphin and probably not to Yacht & Beach unless you walk really fast. I did these walks a lot the last 2 weeks.

You can see all the restaurants at Disney's web site under dining and also see them and menus at allears.net.

I would concur with what the others have suggested. If you like seafood, you might want to try Flying Fish Cafe at the Boardwalk, or if you'd like a great steak, try Yachtman's Steakhouse at YC.

Ok then, so if I want to go to the YC for dinner, at say, Capts' Grille, then you all are saying I can walk there from HS?? How long would it take? Is it right outside the main entrance or what? And Im a little confused about what one of the posters is saying about the boat ride vs. the walk. In a nutshell, should I walk to YC or take the boat...all things considered (i.e. the walk time vs the boat ride time, the scenery, convenience, ...).

I would take the boat. The YC is definitely not right outside the the gate of DS.:rotfl: To take the boat, go out the gate of DS, turn left and you'll see the boat dock. Get on the boat and ride it either all the way to the YC or you could get off at the Swan/Dolphin, then walk to the YC. Coming from DS the boat stops first at the Swan/Dolphin dock, then at the YC/BC dock, then at the BW dock, before it continues on to Epcot. If you choose to walk from DS you would go straight out of the DS gates, veer just a little to the left maybe, get on the sidewalk, walk for awhile, turn left, then walk beside the canal, staying on the same walkway, go under the bridge, go past BW, (where you can cut through past the pool), turn left once you get onto the BW, go past the Swan and Dolphin, and then to the YC. Personally I'd just take the boat all the way to the YC.

I agree with the above posters. Either Flying Fish or Yacht Club would be nice places for dinner. We were at both restaurants on our last trip. The boat ride to and from DHS is very pleasant also. Although we haven't tried the restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin yet we would like to some day (right now we're sticking to the restaurants that take the Ti/W card...can't beat that 20% discount that includes drinks!) Someday we'd like to try Il Mulino, Shula's and Blue Zoo.

The boat ride is 7-8 minutes from DS to Swan/Dolphin, then another 3-4 minute ride to YC/BC marina. So you have 12 minutes of boat time, plus wait time at DS, and load/unload time at Swan/Dolphin. I would say take the boat, unless a boat had just pulled away from the dock at DS right as you were walking up.

The walk from DS to YC/BC will take about 18-20 minutes. If it starts raining during your walk, there isn't mush shelter to be found.

The signature dining restaurants at Swan/Dolphin do not take any discounts, if that matters (that is Il Mulino, BlueZoo, Shula's).

If money is no concern.....

Todd English's bluezoo at the Dolphin - My choice for best seafood on Disney property. Outstanding food, great decor, excellent staff/service.

Shula's at the Dolphin - Fabulous steakhouse, and if you go earlier in the day they have a special right now - something like app, dinner, dessert for $40/person.

Il Mulino at the Swan - IMO best Italian on property. Just plain good food and great drinks.

Yachtsman's Steakhouse - Similar to Shula's in menu and price. Debatable on which is the "better steakhouse" (I love shula's!)

Flying Fish at the Boardwalk - I would go bluezoo first, but if you have TiW, I could see going to FF for your seafood choice. Really cute inside - i like the decor and all its whimsy.

Choices without huge price tags.......

Big River Grille on the Boardwalk - Good for burgers and beer.

ESPNClub on the Boardwalk - Good for burgers and beer.

The Fountain at the Dolphin - Good for burgers and......ice cream!

Beaches & Cream - More crowded than it deserves, but good for burgers and ......ice cream!

Capt'n's Grille at the Yacht Club - (or whatever the name is now) - A step below the top restaurants, and my experience was not the norm due to a brand new server. Solid dinner, but I wouldn't seek it out again.

Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club - Seafood buffet. I reserve the right to not comment as I am from New England.......just sayin..............

Picabu at the Dolphin - A "buffeteria" at the Dolphin. Good quick, cheap options.

Kimono's at the Swan - Sushi turns karaoke bar. Some would argue this belongs with the $$$ places and you can run up a big tab.

Garden Grove at the Swan - "Themed night" buffet at the Swan has characters too!

Cabana Bar at the pool at the Dolphin - Great hidden gem for a relaxed, outdoor meal.

I am sure I missed a few here and there (Fresh at the Dolphin pops into mind) but those are the highlights. For a pricey place, I'd go to bluezoo or Il Mulino. For steak, I'd go Shula's. For burger and beer, I'd go ESPNClub. I really like the Cabana Bar and would strongly consider there. Buffet choice would depend on your desire for cuisine. Lastly, for ice cream, I'd actually go Fountain over B&C. I just like it better!

As far as walk vs boat - both are nice. I like the walk but it is probably 15 min or so if you walk at an average pace. The boat is hit or miss on timing depending on how recently the last boat left. Normally, I think you'd get there faster by boat and it would be a nice little trip. The Boats go DHS to Swan/Dolphin to Boardwalk to YC/BC to EPCOT and back again (I think - might do YC/BC then boardwalk). Consider maybe taking the boat up and walking back or vice versa.
