Let's say you can't see a specific colour like green for example, what do you see? Just grey? I've always wondered..

I can't tell brown/navy/black apart.

I don't know if thats color blind, but they all look the same to me.

My son is color blind, and has a green deficiency. Depending on the green, it may appear as brown or dark red. My dad had the same problem.

My ex husband had a different type of color blindness. His was reds and blues. He saw most pinks as grey. Purple would be varying shades of blue. There was busy road near us that had traffic lights and those yellow sodium vapor streetlights. He saw the red lights the same as those sodium vapor lights, so he had to be very careful driving the road.

DH has the blue/red colorblindness- and can't tell purple from blue... but he sees most of the other colors as they should- or can at least differentiate them enough to make a good guess.

When we met all he would wear was black, white, and gray because he never wanted to mess up and not match lol

I have to make sure our toothbrushes have a high contrast in color shade to each other or he will get them mixed up. He came home once with a pink and purple tooth brushes and told me mine was red his was blue- I had to ask which one he thought was blue so that I could brush my teeth lol-

Another time he came home all happy with the great deal on nikes he bought- with the purple swoosh on the side- he swore for the longest time that I lied to him and it wasn't until our little boy said something about his purple shoes that he believed me.

His brothers are both colorblind as well- his older brother has problems with browns and greens and when he was in the national guard was barred from combat position because of it. His younger brother has troubles with reds and greens- but can pick out something that is similar but different colored in apile better than most -but he also had a problem with street lights that were horizontal instead of vertical- when he first started driving he couldn't tell if it was the red light or the green light lit up

They say the best snipers are colorblind-

So far none of my kids or neices or nephews are colorblind that we know of... my youngest is learning his colors and although he gets all the other's correct he doesn't get RED- he calls it blue- but he can identify purple from blue so I don't think he is actually colorblind- just still learning his colors

There are tests online that will show you how they see or don't see as the case may be

DD's ex-BF was color blind. He could only see yellow and orange clearly. Blue and green looked the same, and he could usually make out purple, but sometimes he'd think it was blue.

My dad is color blind. Especially reds and greens. He sees colors but they are completely different than what they actually are and they can vary day to day for him. I remember as a kid my parents looking at cars or carpet and my dad would pick out the ugliest colors and then ask us what they really were and he'd laugh. My dad's color blindness kept him from Vietnam they told him he wouldn't be able to tell them from us.

I'm color-blind. I get colors like brown/green/black mixed up, and also have a hard time with colors like navy blue and black. Oranges and reds can be confusing for me, too. It gets frustrating, and I usually end up asking DH if the boys clothes match. :rolleyes1

My dad was color blind. When I was about 9 or 10, we had a family portrait made. It was the kind that looks like an oil painting. Apparently, they took the picture in black & white and then someone had to tell them what colors everything was. One of us kids was sick, so my mom couldn't go to let them know about the colors, so my dad went. My sister and I were wearing dark purple dresses, and when we got the picture, they were bright red!! :rotfl:

My DS6 has the red-green form of color deficiency, and has trouble telling apart pink-blue-purple and green-brown. Even though I was aware of my dad's colorblindness, I thought red and green were the only colors he confused with one another, so I was looking for the wrong signs. I kept quizzing DS on his colors, trying to figure out if he was colorblind.

DS had trouble learning his colors (this should have been a clue to me), and it wasn't until last summer (when he was 5) that I confirmed that he was indeed colorblind. I then read up on the subject (there isn't much info on the 'net, curiously), and then talked to my dad about DS's symptoms. He said, "Yup. Yup, same as me." He also mentioned that he sees animals in nature more easily than anyone else, and I have since noticed this trait in DS, so it's not such a bad thing.

It does cause minor issues though. He brings home strange looking coloring pages from school, and had a bit of trouble in basketball when the coach kept telling him to go to the 'red' line - He didn't have a clue which one he meant. Once we clued the coach in, though, things were fine. :)

Funny that you mentioned colorblind snipers....

My son was a Marine Sniper and he is colorblind. :goodvibes

My best friend iis red/green colorblind (apparantly very rare for females), and I have asked her what exactly she sees when she looks at those colors. She had a tough time explaining it to me- after all, how do you explain "red" to someone who has no concept of the color- but basically, said that red and green look like 2 very similar shades of the same color to her. she has a really hard time telling apart red/greens of the same shade- like burgundy and forest green, or pink and mint green, for example.

The funniest thing I think about her unique world view is that she doesn't get excited about Christmas decorations- all that bright red and green looks like one dull color to her!!:rotfl2: Her tree is all done in silver, blue, and yellow- not at all your typical Christmas colors.
