When you trade out what exactly happens to those points?

I have a question that I have been wondering for a while and maybe someone that knows more about timeshares might know the answer...

When we use our points that have a particular UY and home resort for trading outside the DVC system what happens to those points? Does DVC sell them to CRO? and if so, how do they decide what days they sell? holidays? Or if it's a trade to II (which I know absolutely nothing about) how does DVC decide what weeks to place in II?

I guess I'm wondering how the trades affect the resort availibility.

I'd love to know this as well, but no one outside of DVC knows for sure. We can only speculate.

Based on what Dean and others have posted about availability in II for DVC accomodations, it doesn't appear that DVC deposits popular times or holiday weeks into II.

DVC has an accounting relationship with CRO. No money actually changes hands - it's all based on equivalent value for the DVC exchanges to other resorts and options and the value assigned to stays at DVC resorts. No specific information has ever been published publicly, but the values are negotiated annually to create the point charts for these non-DVC options.

As for the World Passport options, as Carol noted, DVC generally does not reserve the high value times for II exchanges. Dean has offered, on a number of occasions, the times that DVC accommodations are usually available for exchange into DVC resorts. I expect that, to some degree, the exchanges relate to the times DVC members exchange out to other options, but I suspect there is a far more complex formula used for these trades.
