When you go to HHI do you combine it with another stay?

We have HHI booked for April 20-24th. I was wondering if anyone combines their HHI stays with a short trip to areas nearby like Charleston, NC or Savannah, GA? If so which one is better for a family(2 kids ages 5 and 10)? We are driving from NY so could do either before or after our DVC stay. Any suggestions for any place else that I may not be thinking of?
TIA!

the I-95 road around Richmond is only 30 minutes from Williamsburg. Busch Gardens should be open on the weekends and it is very interesting for kids to walk around Williamsburg. DC is on your way, too, but being from NY, you have probably already done that. Baltimore has a VERY good Discovery Childrens Museum and Aquarium nearby.
Charleston is several hours from HHI and we never combine that. Savannah is about 1 hour south and easy to combine--but you can also just do a day trip.

Lot's of great ideas I didn't think of! Thank you!! We have done DC, but not with the kids. They love museums and might really like it there.

Either Charleston or Savannah are drivable from HHI for the day.
Savannah is just under an hour and Charleston is just about 2 hours(just over 100 miles) not sure where the above poster is getting several hours.

Both are beautiful and have enough to see. They are considered sister cities so its nice to see both. Savannah has beautiful unique city squares. The best way to see a majority of them is by trolley. pretty popular resteraunts as well including Paula Deans

Charleston has a great open market, great shopping and a very nice downtown area off of king st, the college is sort of blended right in with the downtown area. Also many beaches out on the islands. The battery is a nice historic area with beautiful homes.

Also if you are looking to do something on the way down or back home, I would recommend (as the above poster has) either Baltimore or DC.

We spent 2 days going through Savannah. It is wonderful!

It is an easy day trip from Hilton Head. We spent 1 night at the Hampton Inn on MLK Jr. Drive. Its new, romantic, and quite plush. It was worth much more than the $99 we paid.

The trolley tours are very informative and helpful for 1st time visitors. We toured on the trolley the 1st day, and then toured with our car on the 2nd day.

You must sample the pecan pralines at the Savannah Candy Co. on River Street.

We also really enjoyed the Disney resort with its "Fish Camp" theme, and the beach.
