Did you buy the extended warranty?? Most of the time I don't buy the extended warranties but curious if I should??

I didn't, I'm not really one to buy extended warranties period though, and it has always worked for me. If it is worth the cost for the peace of mind for you, then do it. And also make sure the warranty covers what you think you may potentially do to it.

I bought my Kindle over 2 years ago when I paid $300. I bought the extended warranty because I had small kids and could see the kids destroying it. It has a crack on the side, but I didn't file a claim. Now that the Kindle is so cheap I wouldn't get one now.
I did get an ipad this past June and the first thing I did was get a square trade warranty being that it would cost $700+ to replace so the $70 I paid is worth my piece of mind. Even though my kids are older (6 & 8) I could still see it being knocked down and going boom.

I bought my warranty from Squaretrade.com. It was actually suggested by someone on the Dis. I've never had to make a claim with them, but I've read reviews from a bunch of people that have and they've been all positive. Plus they have 30 and 40% off codes pretty much all the time so it makes the warranty super cheap.

I received my Kindle as a gift, but I didn't get the extended warranty. I've not been sorry since it's three years old and is in perfect condition. Today, especially since the Kindle price is as low as $120 or so, I don't think it's worthwhile.

I really don't see a need for it now that the prices are so low.
Plus, Amazon replaces most broken kindles anyway, even if it isn't under warranty.

I agree with the previous posters. Bought my kindle when when the Kindle 2 first came out and it was well over $300. I bought the extended warranty with it. The small square select key cracked in half about 6 months ago which made the kindle unusable. I called and they sent me out a new one immediately. But with the prices now, I wouldn't buy another warranty.

I don't have the extended warranty on my nook, but I'm pretty good about taking care of things like that. My mom and sister on the other hand have one they share, and I wouldn't imagine not having the extended warranty on theirs. I figure by the time I wear mine out I'll be ready for the next new thing, so it really depends on your situation.

I bought one for my nook with Sq Trade. Even when I got it on a steal. I knew it was a new product and there's a chance that it might go wonky after the mfg warranty runs out.
Sure enough I've had it just past a year and it's doing funny stuff (missing books, refusing to archive books, randomly archiving books, etc.). I don't want to send a claim yet because I don't know what to replace it with. It still works fine with the library lending program.
Once I know what to get I'll file the claim and hopefully they'll send me a check without any hassle.

Just as a general rule of thumb, if you happen to buy on a credit card, most credit cards will extend the manufacturer warranty an extra year automatically.
I purchased a smart phone in may 2010. In July 2011 it crapped out. Wouldn't even turn on. My C/C is refunding me the purchase price of my new phone (which cost less than the old one). If my new phone had cost more, they would have refunded me the original purchase price of my old phone.

Thanks everyone!!

One more quick question...on the kindle it says that you can get one with ads?? What is that? Is it worth it to save $50?

The ads show up as screensavers (instead of the dead authors) and at the bottom of the home screen. They are special offers that are only available to those that own a Kindle w/ Special Offers. The ads don't show up in the books or interrupt the reading.

There's been 1/2 price sales on Amazon Gift Cards, an offer to pick from a list of Kindle books and buy one for $1, electronics deals, etc etc. Many people find that they end up saving the cost of the Kindle through the special offers.

Thanks!! I thought maybe it would disrupt your reading with ads. So it sounds like you get some good offers on it!

I skipped the extended warranty on the kindle because at $45 its a little less than half the price of the kindle now, and in a year it'll most likely be cheaper so if something did happen it won't be super expensive to replace, with big ticket items I do buy the warranty though.

The ads on the special offer kindle in NO way interrupt your reading, the only two places they are at are as a screensaver and a tiny banner at the bottom of the home page. I honestly don't even notice the banner at the bottom, I turn it on pick my book and I'm on my way. The screensavers look really good too. It'll be a personal preference but I say 110% the special offer kindle is worth the savings! Recently there have been some AMAZING deals (25% off camera, 20% off laptop, $40 off select printers...unfortunately you can't use these offers if you were to buy a kindle today). There were also offers for books (there was a list of 100 mystery/thriller and then humor books that you could buy one for a dollar). It seems like a lot of the offers are for things people will actually use with a good variety. I've stuck to only using the offers I NEED to and not "oh If I buy $50 worth of jewelry its only $25!!!!" and in a month I've saved almost half of the price of the kindle. Plus the kindle itself is amazing!

Now that Kindles have come down so much in price, I wouldn't do a warranty unless you know that you're really hard on electronics. I've heard really good things about SquareTrade though if that's the route you choose.

As for the Kindle with special offers, DH has one. Personally as small and unobtrusive as the ads are, I wouldn't because they're still noticeable to me. DH disagrees though, he doesn't see them at all and the savings are nice. He's really digging the 20% off a laptop one; for us, that alone pays for the Kindle.

I bought my warranty from Square Trade due to my BIL's fantastic experience with them. I have 3 small kids, and it was worth it to me to have it covered. Plus, I got a 30% off code from Square Trade for the warranty, so it was really cheap and covers EVERYTHING, including dropping it in the toilet by a 3-year-old (not that I would have firsthand experience with something like that happening....)

SquareTrade is running 30% off new warranties today. DH and I both have warranties on our Kindles- because of how expensive they were when we bought them (even though I got a deal on mine with MyPoints).

It just gives me peace of mind, because if one of ours is going to break- it would be mine.....:lmao:

I think it is worth the savings. The ads aren't so bad.
I didn't buy a warranty. My old kindle broke a week and half ago... three years old. My error. It fell.
I consider gadgety -gadgets kinda disposable.
Maybe that's bad. Who knows.
I don't see many tv repair shops these days or even vacum repair. Gone are the days of fixing gadgets unless you know someone or can repair it yourself.
