I really want to plan a trip this year. I am thinking of over the summer or Oct/Nov. I have only gone with the kids in December and LOVE that time of year for the weather and low crowds but we are already palnning to take them out of school for 1 week in January 2010 to ski. They will be in kindergarten and 1st grade this fall.

Summer really works best with school schedules but I don't know if we will be able to handle the crowds and the heat. Is it much cooler/less crowded if we go over Columbus day weekend in Oct? Are there any special rates right now that would sway my decision? If we go in the summer are we going to have 2hr waits for everything?

Any advice/experieince appreciated!

Here is the thing about going in the summer: the parks are open very long hours, early in the morning until ater into the night When we went in August, it was great We got up in the morning and had lunch and "nap" time back at the resort and then went back into the parks in the evening and kept going until we dropped. we missed the peak of the heat and crowds this way. Go and enjoy.

If you can stand the heat and if you can stand the heat while waiting in LONG lines w/ 2 little boys, then I say GO in the summer. I went during Spring Break 2008 and I would NEVER go during an overly crowded time again! (and I did not have intense summer heat) Summer is a peak time too (like Spring Break) so you will pay more for everything! With a kid in K and a kid in 1st, you can most definitely take them out twice for a week. Do it now b/c when they are in 7th and 8th, well then that will be a different story...

If it were me, and my kids, we'd be going over Columbus Day in Oct. With your kids only being in kindergarten and 1st grade; I don't think they'll have any problem getting caught up for a week twice in the same school year. I can't imagine going to WDW in the summer with all the crowds:scared1: I know a lot of ppl. do, and I'm glad it works for them, but I'd much rather get my kids ahead a week or catch up a week with school so we can go during the school year, and not as hot. We've been going the week after Labor Day and love it, although it is still pretty warm, the crowds are great. You know your kids best, if you think they can handle it, I wouldn't hesitate to go when you think your family would have a more magical time.

We went every year as a child and we found that the couple of weeks before Thanksgiving was one of the best times to go all year. Weather was great, lines were never longer than 20-30 minutes and we got to see and do so much more. I presonally would never go in the sumer, not even if someone paid me, b/c it is so hot and the the lines are horrible. I know a lot of people do, but I just couldn't.
