When will the Osborne lights stop

I didn't realize you were the person who posted "The Osborne lights were just officially announced for this year this week"...so I'm asking again, where did YOU see the announcement?

On wdwmagic.com

Sadly if they are going away in the next few years I doubt I will ever get a chance to see them outside of TV specials :/

my fingers are crossed that they will start in early November!
Osbourne Lights is really high on my list of things to see!

If you've never seen the Osborne Lights, it's worth a trip down to Disney just to see them! I'd hate to see these go... I wish they would expand further back (like the new Fantasyland) instead of tampering with the rest of the park.

I was in WDW last year Nov. 12-19 and at DHS on the 14th and the lights were working then. Seeing the lights is one of the highlights of my trip. I hope they never get rid of them! Going back again this year mid-Nov. and hope to see them for a third time......

We went in January of this year and saw them on the 3rd, they ran until the 5th I believe and it was a mandatory thing for us to see, well ok me.. My almost 8 year old son really couldn't care about it lol but I told him he got rides I get my Xmas lights, it's the main reason why we went the 2-11th instead of later in the month. I told him to just out up with it we weren't leaving DHS without me getting my lights. I think I have an Xmas light addiction... Lol were going back dec 2015 and I'm hoping they still run then.

They started on friday Nov.8th last year, and was hoping that they'd do the same this year. Meaning the 7th. I'm there from the 1st thru the 8th. What I've seen are 2 conflicting reports. 1 original one stating it will open on Saturday the 8th. Then someone else posted they saw opening on the 7th. I'm hoping the latter of the 2 so I can see it 1 more time.....:confused3

Hey gang, Tristan here, I'm Breezy Osbornes husband. I will try to quash some of the rumors.

The Osborne licensing agreement is signed in 5 year increments, and the last one was signed shortly before Jennings passed away.

As far as his "Children" asking for a licensing fee, this is false. Firstly there is only one child, his daughter, Breezy. Breezy and her mother Mitzi are the only two people with any say about the lights and I know for a fact that they both want to lights to run at Disney for eternity and they will never ask for a licensing fee for the use of the family name / story.

We usually spend a good amount of time with the lighting team and directors as they have become like family to the Osborne's over the years the lights have run. We've heard no mention of the lights being removed altogether, although we have been told they would "find" a new home in the event that the studio's were being revamped. This wouldn't be the first time they have moved the lights, and we've been given no reason to think they will be moved anytime soon. Of course you also have to remember that each and every attraction at Disney has it's own team of directors and they don't always let other dept's in on plans until they are inked. So we may not know about any moves for the lights until the year that they are moved.

All that being said, since there is no monetary gain in the Osborne's favor in using the lights and never will be, Disney could break the contract with the Osborne's anytime they'd like and wouldn't be under any assumption to have to fork over any payment /penalty to them.

If you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer em.

Thanks for all the Osborne light love!!!:thumbsup2

Found this in regards to 2015 lights... http://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/closures In the DHS section it lists the lights as starting on 11/5/15. I am hoping this is true because this will probably be the one and only time we go during the time they are up.
As far as I'm aware it's not officially back for 2015 yet. There are tons of rumors for that area and with the backlot tour now closed who knows what will happen.

Disney does not seem to announce Osborne dates until summer, around when they start selling MCMCP tickets. We won't know until then, unless construction zones rise up beforehand.

Awesome info. Thanks! The lights were by far the favorite part of my trip in 2012 and I can't wait to see them this year. I feel a little better since you said you feel confident they will find a new home for them should they need to be moved.

I just can't imagine where they could possible move to that would be as amazing as the SoA. There's nothing really going on there so it doesn't interfere with anything, AND it's made to feel like you are looking at lights on real buildings. If they were set up anywhere else it would just be a light show. I'm sure it could still be amazing but it just wouldn't be the same as feeling like you are waiting apartments in NYC light up while snow falls on you. :goodvibes

As for a place as far out of the way, my first thought was Tom Sawyer Island in MK. They could also probably find a home for them somewhere in AK. As for DHS, there are only 2 other options I can think of and that would be the entrance, which I would imagine would cause major congestion issues, and the street leading to ToT. But back there you have 2 of the most popular rides, PLUS Fantasmic. I don't think that could possibly work.

Thank you Tristan! Osborne lights are a staple to each and every Disney trip. I've only been to Disney during December. So I don't know HS any other way. I hope they stay right where they are. IMO, it's the perfect spot. Fingers crossed they will be there for many years ahead. :worship:

I hope that the Osborne Lights stay around forever. They might need to be refurbished at some point but won't become outdated because lights are lights.
