Hi,

I'm contemplating signing up for the 1/2 marathon and know it is already 75% full. We already are planning to be at WDW that weekend, I'm signed up for the 5K. I'm thinking I could be ready for the 1/2 by January (first 1/2 marathon) but I'm nervous. I'm trying to get an idea of when I need to make my decision by. Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Jennifer

This year's registrations have gone slower than in the past. Just keep an eye on the percentages, but really I say just go for it. It is an awesome feeling when that Donald medal gets put around your neck!!

Thanks! I keep telling myself that if I just go ahead and sign up, I have no other choice but to get my butt in higher gear. :)

I agree with Pat. In addition, it's kind of cool seeing people wearing their medals in the parks afterwards...and the next day....and the next day. :teeth:

One thing I want to mention about the percentages....

I just recently signed up for Disney's Wine & Dine half-marathon in Oct. According to the website, the race was at 86% capacity. Within a week, it was sold out. You may have a little cushion now but I wouldn't wait too long. There's a lot of people out there *thinking* about it but once the numbers start creeping up, there could be a rush to get in.

Thank you all for your encouragement, you guys are great!!

I'm going to watch the percentages over the next two weeks and probably end up signing up then. I need a couple more weeks of training under my belt and I think I'll feel less nervous.

You probably have 2-4 weeks before it fill. Panic registration happen quickly once it hits 85%+!

So after debating it with myself, reading very inspirational stories and advice from WISHers, and having a fantastic run on Saturday in which I realized how much I really love this, I took the plunge and signed up for the half!

Piraterunner, I could not get your post out of my head. I kept envisioning myself at WDW and kicking myself in the **** for not signing up. :)

Good show. We are way past the normal fill time but I think we have seen the panic entrees create huge jumps in the percentages over night in other races. You will not regret the race.

I am signing up tomorrow (thank you end of year work bonus :yay: ) so hopefully not before then.

Can't offer you something say in a full size event? Same price PLUS it comes with a free day in the park. It's like a two fer one event.

I just want to reiterate what Charles and Robert said about the panic entries. There are most likely a lot of people thinking the same as you and waiting as long as possible before committing. Once that % full hits 85% or 90% all of those people will register at once.

I believe that the W&D half went to 90% and closed in one day. While the January event is larger so having 10% of entries still available represents more actual slots I wouldn't want to risk it. Worst case you sign up intending to run and have to jog or intending to jog and have to walk. Besides, all of you friends are doing it. :goodvibes

I signed up for the full last year because the half was filled up. That means this year it is either the half or the goofy. If I do the goofy, I plan on running it was 2 half marathons and just enjoying the 2nd half of the full on Sunday with a leasurly 13 mile walk at a 16 minute per mile pace.

Fortunately I have about 12 hours to decide before I sign up.

Not filled up yet...because I just registered. It will be half number 6 of my 13 halves in 13 months. Now on to figuring out rooms and flights.
