When will I find out if my waitlist for Main Dining went through?

So you are saying "Main" is the first dinner, the earlier one? What is the difference between one being earlier & the other later? I actually prefer the 2nd one (no little kids with me), so that works best for me & my son. But aren't the dinners the same? What is the "Main" more popular? Just because it is the early one?
Thanks for the info !!!! Trying to learn all I can. :)

Main/Early
Second/late

Main is far more popular, its considered a normal eating time for most families, most people prefer food>>show not the other way, and also allows food to go 'down' before bed.

Well, just for all of you out there who may search for a similar thread in the future, I wanted to let you know I have been checking my reservation on the DCL website several times a day for weeks and FINALLY today, 8 days from the cruise, our wait list came through. This was for the Dream, 3 day in June, sold out cruise, purchased a few days after the pay-in-full date so we were probably a little ways down the list.

If you book a year out and request the earlier seating, is it likely you will get it?
Or is it assigned randomly after the reservation is paid in full?

Almost certainly. You can choose main dining when you book and that far out it would be very unlikely to be full. If it's available when you book, you have it, its not a request.

I booked my cruise and was handed the second seating, I called and told them I need first
Due to my reasons, I had it on my itinerary next day.

I booked easily a year out for our upcoming June 20th cruise on the Fantasy. We were put in second seating and wait listed for Main dining. My Dreams Unlimited reservation says waitlisted for Main but on the Disney site is says Dining Preference : Main. Where can you look to see what dining you actually have on the Disney Cruise Line Site?

If your reservation says "Dining Preference - Main" then you have early seating.

We were waitlisted for the 2 legs of our B2B last Sep, and the early seating came through about a month out for the first leg, and about a week out for the second.

I had something strange happen to me...I had booked a mid-November (2015) cruise booked on the Dream (4night). I had been waiting for a Cat 9 room to become available and for some reason there was none for a while. In fact, the only rooms that I could get were the veranda rooms. Then, one day, I got an alert via cruise fish and ALL the catagories opened up. Like many many rooms in each CAT. I tried calling DCL and after holding more than 20 minutes, I just decided to book on-line and call later to move my OBB discount. I got my Cat 9 and main dining but I didn't want to see them disappear again so I booked it online. So, I call a bit later to move my OBB and the rep tells me I will lose main seating. I was like I just booked online and there are plenty of rooms still avail and I currently am holding a main dining spot. She apologized and said there was nothing to do. She said she put me on a waitlist, so I'm hopeful since we are still a ways out.

I was really disappointed to lose main seating especially considering I had just booked it and held a main seating slot. It just didn't make any sense to me. I guess I'm supposed to believe the main dining filled up between the time I booked on-line and the time I was actually able to speak to a rep. And, if I was holding a slot and they were just moving around a reservation, why couldn't I hang on to my main dining spot. The whole thing really just put a bad taste in my mouth.

I get up for work at 4 am and my body is wired that way. I try to sleep in and I just never can. But, by about 7:30, I start fading fast. I really hope I can hang on for the second dining or my wonderful anniversary cruise will be filled with chicken tenders and pizza from the pool deck :-/

Here's hoping our waitlist comes through...good luck to everyone else who is waiting as well. Have a happy day DisPals!
