When will Frozen musical open? Will it bring big crowds?

We are going to DLR the last few days of June and I'm hoping nothing is opening that week that will draw in larger crowds than usual. Do we know or what's the speculation about when the Frozen musical will open and do you think it will bring in huge crowds? Is there anything else happening the end of June that might affect how busy the parks are? Thanks!

All I know is I have 2 kids that LOVED the movie and we are here now and they don't even want to go see how they "froze over the Muppets". There are a lot of people who are SICK of Frozen so that might help. My daughter calls them Anna and Elsa Kardashian.

It's going to have Fastpass when it opens. The use of it during the final days of Aladdin served two purposes: managing those crowds, and testing for its use with Frozen when it opens to large crowds.

I don't think it will really matter if people are "sick" of Frozen. If it's a good show, people will watch it, probably multiple times. The fact that there also aren't a ton of new things opening this year will mean it will be marketed a ton. The crowds will follow.

They have not yet announced an opening date for the new Frozen Musical; it just says "in the summer" which could mean pretty much any time after Memorial Day weekend (assuming "Summer" starts on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend like they have in the past). I would guess that they'll be aiming for as early in the summer as possible so that they can roll it out as early as possible as part of the summer-advertising campaign. While the tenor on this Board tends to be "over Frozen", there are still plenty of people - adults and kids - that still love the movie and characters. So I can see where having a new Frozen show would be part of the advertising plan for DLR.

The end of June is going to be busy regardless because most/many schools are on summer break. There are always conventions/conferences happening, but it's not clear how much they impact crowds at DLR (unless they're in-park activities, like Dapper Days and Gay Days). I think you'll see high(ish) crowds on all days during the end of June just because it is summer, but on the flip side, the parks should be operating on long hours with full entertainment (minus Fantasmic! because it's dark this year).

You would expect it to have large crowds, but there clearly are some kids rebelling from oversaturation. Frozen booting out the Aladdin musical was the last straw for my DD. She loved the Aladdin musical and she does not want to have anything to do with anything Frozen anymore. The oversaturation has finally put her over the edge. She went from being excited when they originally announced there would be a Broadway Show, to not wanting to have anything to do with it at all. The kid who belted out the score all day every day now cringes every time a Frozen song comes on the radio or is on tv, particularly Let It Go. She has Let It Go and is done. I think Disney has taken something that could have endured with everyone for years, and pushed it on everyone so much that they are losing some the appeal. I still expect that anyone 5 and under may be nuts over it though. Plus, anything new at Disney usually draws some pretty big crowds at first. I don't know that it will affect the overall park crowd that much though.

I personally love Frozen. And I am disappointed that I never saw the Aladdin show, I hope that the new show will be open when I am there in July.

Not sure when Frozen opens but it's summer and it will be busy!! My 9 year old niece is sooooooooooo over Frozen! I took her and her BFF in November and had to beg her to meet A&E since her BFF had never met them!

Don't think the show itself will bring in a ton of people who wouldn't otherwise visit, but it is a busy/crowded time of the year and the show will be busy. I just don't see it bringing in a ton of extra people just for the show, you know?

It doesn't take a lot of people to make DLR feel very crowded, but I think you're right in that I don't expect to see thousands of extra people in the park just because the show opened. That being said, I do think it could have an impact on crowds if it opens before the summertime AP blockout starts. I could see some AP-holders deciding to stop into the park to see the new show before their APs are blocked out for the summer. If it opens after the peak summer season starts, then I don't know that it'll make a noticeable difference in the crowds because the parks are generally crowded.

If the show's good it'll be popular but I don't see a lot of people planning a special trip for it. I could see it helping to make that portion of the resort more crowded, along with the new Luigi's ride.

This. The show is at DCA, which is a good thing so the day crowds coming to see the new show will hopefully spend most of their time in that park.

Thanks for all your insightful comments. Looks like my biggest concern is now visiting on the last three days before So Cal APs are blocked out. How bad does that get? We were avoiding Friday July 1st but maybe it would be better since they are blocked out?

So I get the southern climate and all but summer officially begins around June 21t and ends same day in September. I find it odd how Summer somehow kicks off in May as its pretty official that it doesn't. We are here now and it's as warm or warmer than summer where we live!!

It's not that DLR is saying that the season of Summer starts in May, just that from their operating schedule perspective, they consider Memorial Day weekend to be the kick-off to their summer operating schedule, crowd expectations, and operations. In this sense, it's the same as saying the "Holiday Season" starts in mid-November and runs through early January, "Halloween Season" starts in September and goes through Halloween, and the "Spring Season" starts in March and ends in April - they aren't tying it to the equinoxes/solstices, but rather an operating "season".

I think that is hard to say since it is the start of the holiday weekend. I can say that we have been in the first half of June several times. We are in park from Saturday through Wednesday. That is when the weekends are blocked out, but weekdays are still open and we have found that Saturday and Sunday were much less crowded than Monday and Tuesday, but then the crowds lowered quite a bit on Wednesday again. I do think there are a lot of people who try to get a last visit in on those last weekdays before they are blocked out the rest of the summer.

The Parks Blog has announced that the Frozen Musical will open on Friday, May 27. They also announced that the "For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration's" last day will be Sunday, April 17.
New Stage Musical ‘Frozen – Live at the Hyperion’ Opens May 27, 2016, at Disney California Adventure Park
That answers the OP's question. There will be large crowds when Frozen opens.
Not just because Frozen opens, but because Frozen will be just one part of Summer advertising -- Let's Bring Back Summer!

I'm very excited about Frozen - Live at the Hyperion, although even more excited about the full length Frozen musical coming to Broadway.

I am so excited for the Frozen musical. I saw Aladdin and was not super impressed. It was good, but I think it was hyped up more than it delivered. I am also a die hard Frozen fan.
