We are thinking about taking our younger daughter on a disney cruise for her senior trip but at this time Disney only has dates up to May of 2018. We are currently taking our oldest on a 4 day trip in March and would love to rebook for December of 2018 but we are afraid they wont have the dates at that time. Is there a certain time they come out with the Christmas dates? Is there a way we can book a trip that they dont even have dates for yet on the cruise. We have heard it is always cheapest to rebook on a cruise and would love to be able to book the 2018 trip on the cruise we are going on next month. Any info you could give would be appreciated?

you can still book a placeholder which is good for 2 years - that way you get the OBB and can apply it to a cruise at a later date. Many already do it that way.

Here's an ongoing thread speculating about "when":

The lowest prices are typically offered on opening day. You can book a cruise while on a cruise with discounts. BUT, if you book on opening day (lowest price) and then try to rebook on a cruise subsequently (say 3-4 months later), you get the discounts on the prevailing (current) price. If it's risen enough, cancelling and rebooking may be negated by the price increase.

You can book a placeholder onboard, and apply it to a specific cruise later. Future cruise must be taken with 24 months of the booking date onboard.

Thanks for the info. It is good to know that you can put a placeholder for 2 years. That is what we will probably do. PrincessShmoo are you saying that it is better to try and get it on the day it is open to the public or on the cruise itself. I couldnt quite follow what you were saying.

If the itinerary is released before you take your cruise, book it on opening day. Once onboard the ship, reshop the cruise. If the price hasn't risen enough to negate the discount savings, you can cancel and rebook it.

If the itinerary are not released before you cruise, book a placeholder while on the cruise. Once the itinerary is released, transfer the placeholder to the cruise you want.
