When will a passport be necessary to re-enter?

So we won't quite need them yet for the 10 day, will we? I think my DDs expires this year and I haven't gotten around to renewing it yet.

No, we won't need them for the 10-day; I think it will be the last returning cruise that won't need them. We have never had passports and I may go ahead and get them because after this trip, I am sure we will want to go again!

We have them but DDs expires in August (under 16 expires every 5 years, not 10!) and I'd rather not have to renew it immediately. If I wait a bit I will only have to do two more before she turns 16 rather than the three I would have to do if I sent it in right now! At about $80 a shot for these I'd rather do as few as I have to. For the kids you have pay the full amount each time, no lower renewal fee. I don't understand it, but what a pain!

We were just on the Wonder last December. We had to show our passports to get on and off the boat at Castaway Cay (how assinine!) There were alot of angry people who were ready to get off the boat and get to the beach, who :confused3 had to send runners back to their room to get ID/passports

You just need a photo id to get off the ship at CC. That way they know that everyone that got off the ship is back on the ship.

cruisinthecarribean,

I'm assuming that you were using your passports as your photo id????

I'm not sure why people would be upset about having to have their photo ids. :confused3 It does state in the navigator that you do need them to leave the ship, even at CC.

Musicgirl,
We were using our passports as photo ID. Like I said there were alot of angry people at the disembarking area, they apparently don't read the Navigator as thoroughly as you do (that includes me!) Seems to me I remember just using my room key card in '04. Seems like that should be sufficient at CC.
