When will '09 dates be released?

They also usually release a price range for each cabin category. Considering the madhouse that booking day has become for the specialty cruises and jump in prices by the minute, I would budget based on the highest tier pricing and be pleasantly surprised if I get in on the lower tier pricing.

Agreed.

Also,

Last year a travel agent gave me some information in advance and was 100% correct, this year, that T/a has sent out an E.mail saying the Magic will be in the CARIBBEAN in 2009,

Whilst the Dis know a lot, I must say I know the owner really knows his facts and if he says in his e.mail its Caribbean, he is most likely correct.

I don't believe I said anything about the itinerary in my previous post. :confused3 I was just adding to the posts about what information we are usually given before booking opens.

As far as I am concerned all info about itineraries is just rumor. I got the same email as well as many others on Tuesday. We have also been hearing for weeks that the Capt. said Northern Europe. Now Alaska and Hong Kong are in the mix. The only ones who truly know are the DCL Executives and they will let the rest of us know when they are good and ready.;)

Darn! I know a lot of people will be excited if it is the Caribbean but I think Alaska would be so much more interesting especially sailing on the DCL. I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed but I won't be too disapointed if it does turn out otherwise. I'll just look to the future and hope for Asia in 2010.:wizard: I've already talked to DH and told him what may be up in '09 and '10 and he's agreed that if it is Alaska we're booking and if it is Asia in '10 we'll be booking that one as well. Both cruises sound incredible once in a lifetime experiences. But the Caribbean doesn't really excite me too much. :guilty:

Sorry, I have re edited my post, I wanted to AGREE, and then post new info.

The Captain did give a very clear pointer it could ne Northern Europe, myself and a number of cruisers got that clear impression and then it was the talk of the Magic, but thats died down now.

DCL likes sometimes to whip up publicity, with rumours, thats why so many come through.

Other posts ( just off the Wonder) quote the new ships will have a pool that can be covered and DCL are planning that for Alaska, and not before?

Well that makes since. I wondered about the pool and a cruise to Alaska. What would Disney do? When are the new ships suppose to set sail - 2011 or 2012? Thanks!

Yes first 2011 then next 2012, if they are planing options ofr the ship it would make it more comfortable to travel to 'colder' climes.

We were on a princess cruise to Alaska, and they just have the pools open and stuff. I don't know if they up-ed the temp a lot, but I do know they was almost no one in them. The hot tubs were another story.

When I did Alaska we had a covered pool, and it still wasn't used much. Of course there was an older crowd on board.

While I believe you CAN do Alaska without a covered pool, I just don't think that you can/should do a Disney cruise without a covered pool. For the kids, the pools, poolside games, and deck parties are just too important. And can you imagine how disappointed the kids would be if it was to cold to use the Mickey slide???

You are very correct, kids look to all these things as part of the 'Magic' and there would be dissapointment if they couldnt use these facilities.

So to summarize various posts on various threads, release dates for the first quarter of 2009 will be out the first two weeks in December, and the new ships are expected to start in April of the irrespective years.

If it was cold enough,

The Mickey slide would be the Mickey ICE Slide. AND The family pool would be an ice skating rink.

Just crank up the heat in the Adult Pool and put a cover over it and I'll be happy.

Even with all that I bet they'll still sell the heck out of Mickey bars.. LOL

The average daytime temperature in southern Alaska during the summer is 65 - 85 degrees faranheit.

It has been known to reach the 90's.

When we were there last year in June it never got above 55 degrees. This year in August it got to 62 degrees one of the days. But it was overcast and rainy most of the days except in Ketchikan. Beautiful sun and 60.

Yes, but the wind can make it feel colder. Especially if you are running around in a wet swmisuit...brrr!

Maybe my girls are different or it could be because we live a couple of hours from the "Water Park Capital of the World - Wisconsin Dells" and go quite often but they have no interest in the pools and slide on the ships. They think they are too small and crowded for any real fun. They love the ship itself and the kids clubs. So use of the pool would not be a deal breaker for my family.

Andrew, I 'think' Kylie told me that the entire year was going to be released all at once the beginning of Dec. I know I asked her this question and because I was taken back by all the info she gave me, I'm not 100% sure she said the entire year all at once, but I do believe so. I also asked her if she knew when the itineraries would be announced and she said she didn't know how or when that would be which led me to believe that it would be prior to Dec.

Thank you for the info, before DCL have released the first part of a year first, IE January to April 09, Wonder and Magic, then All year Wonder and then Magic apart from May to September.

The special cruises are always last.

Now when they released Panama and Mexico 08 trips on January 31st, they were under so much pressure by phone, and on the website, you would have thought they would learn by their big mistakes and release stuff in stages.

  • Look after their own staff, put the pressure over various dates on just one.
  • Make booking an easier business.
  • Ensure the DCL website can cope and doesn't crash.
  • Reduce double bookings and multiple requests and 'panic'.
and take pressure off travel agents!
