When will '09 dates be released?

Do any Alaskan cruises depart from LA or do they all leave from either Seattle or Vancouver??? Trying to figure what port DCL may use a departure point if they do indeed do Alaska in '09. I wonder if it would be a 7 day or 10 day itinerary.

Some cruiselines for the Alaska season sail a PC Repo to LA and then offer 4 or 5 night Pacific Costal cruise to either Vancouver or Seattle (if Seattle there is usually a port stop in Victoria, BC).

It would be cool if they offered the one way North or Southbound itineraries, then maybe offer an ABD land tour of the Denali area.

Rumors have got me dreaming.;)

Yes I have seen Princess cruises do that, some people on a Princess Panama crossing cruise stayed on at LA and went up the coast all the way to Vancouver and Alaska some cruise!!

Now that I would just love to do.:thumbsup2

The rumors have me dreaming too. But here is what I am wondering...and Kevin, if you have any insight on this, I sure would love it.
Since the rumors are out on both, do you think booking for 2009 and 2010 will be available at the same time? Or do you think they will release the Alaska itineraries and dates in 2008 and wait for the Asia releases until 2009?

Also, to get a perspective on dates, usually the repos are mid to end of May, and coming back mid to end of August, but if they have to add in a Panama Canal crossing too, would they do the PC in May and August, and have the trans pacific repo take over where those dates left off? I cannot see them doing a PC repo earlier in May and later in August. I would think that the Asia summer would just be shorter due to the time it takes for the PC repos. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Just trying to speculate the dates.

Now would Alaska be 7 nights or like the Med 10/11 nights.

The thing I cannot understand is in the Med the Captain of the Magic gave such a strong hint about Northern Europe, when he was asked about Alaska he said ''too cold''.

Me thinks they are playing games! And they have done that before many a time.

I would not even consider doing a 3 or 4 night anyway. By the time I get air fare, time off work etc....3/4 nt is WAY too short!

ITA. That's the reason we've never been on the Wonder. I wish they'd use the Wonder for the longer sailings...

Kevin...really enjoyed the PodCast this morning....it was the first one I listened to and will be listening more in the future!!! Very imformative!!!

me too, what a perfect way to make my laundry folding time go quickly! Thanks, i'll be listening again also.

Our 1st DC was on Wonder........4 day.........about the 2nd day we had all decided it was waaaaaaaaaay too short and we were dreading having to get off the ship so we began planning our 7 day cruise!:cool1:

By the way, my 1st trip to Europe was to Brussels! I see that's where you live!:)

Currently with Port Canaveral being the home base they have an agreement of the minimum times they can 'call' at PC, to reserve exclusive access and no one else use DCL's terminal.

Now recently DCL had to pay $100K+ to PC as they didn't reach the target due to the Magic being in the Med.

Unless this is renegotiated, the run to/from Hong Kong would be limited or they would pay a big fine.

If the Wonder does 3/4/7 night cruises this also cuts the visits by more.

The podcast says the Wonder will alternate 3/4 night with 7-night cruises in summers of 2009 & 2010 due to complaints of no 7-night summer Caribbean cruises. :thumbsup2

Podcast went on to say the Wonder CMs are being trained to do 7-night cruises.

Something for everyone....:cheer2:

Yes, I am confusing now after heard on the Med Cruise that it will be held at Northern Europe. Lots of usa votes for Alaska/Hawaii. Captian Tom said no!!!

Now change to Asia and Alaska:confused3

Now I think lots of people are happy about Alaska so I wait and see until January 2008!!

I think it is going cost me expensive now cos add on of air fares.

Isn't DCL in the process of negotiating with the port right now? There has been talk of Tampa and/or Miami as possible replacement if PC and DCL cannot come to terms.

I bet DCL would pass this fine into the prices of the Magic cruises in the summer of 2009 & 2010, especially since its a predictable cost.

Yes does 'conflict' with Captain Toms annocements then.

That would be an explanation, as discussed before, Miami is expected to annouce a cruise line moving to it shortly with a $60m deal!

Maybe they are going to offer Northern Europe in 2011 when first new ship is planned on being finished? Since the ship will already be in Germany it would make sense that they will offer it then. That is if the ship is planned on being done in the late spring of that year
