When will '09 dates be released?

Andrew, probably just wishful thinking but Jan 26 is Australia Day... maybe you were onto something when you mentioned about Sydney Harbour Bridge ( I wish :rotfl: )

Oh I wish and sound nice if dcl will be visiting to Sydney oh yes:thumbsup2

I have been in Australia three times and loved it.

Well, I didn't get any CC mail either but then I'm not in the USA. I have a theory. The December meeting on the ship for the TA's is to announce a Port change. The January 26th Party idea is to announce where the special cruises are for 2009. What do you'll think of that?:confused3

Bummer, if that is the scenrio. I was all excited when a PP mentioned about the TA's going on the ship, that we were going to hear the news sooner and now it seems like it's going to be later. :sad2:

Patiently, waiting in Victoria, BC

The fact that the DCL party is January 26th and last years Panama canal and Mexico trips were released on January 31st 2007, seems to be too much of a con incidence.

I think we will see a limited release in December of cruises for 3/4 Wonder and 7 night standard Magic cruises excluding summer 09.

Well you never know, seems to be a lot of coincidences.
It probably is unrelated to the December meeting, but there is a somewhat cryptic entry on the calendar of the Tampa Port Authority. On November 15, the entry reads: Tampa Port Authority Signs Lease with New Customer. I have read that Disney has been in discussions with Tampa about moving some operations over to Tampa. Now the mysterious sounding entry on the Tampa Port Authority's calendar is intriguing, because not many "new customers" would require the authority to hold off making a more public announcement. It could be that the December meeting with TAs is to announce a shift of operations (or at least some operations) to Tampa from Port Canaveral. Tampa does make more sense than Miami because of the proximity to WDW, and Tampa does make it easier for DCL to visit different Western Caribbean ports. Perhaps one of the new ships will be based in Tampa to service Western Caribbean destinations.

It might be nothing, but it seemed worth mentioning.

Whilst you later dismissed this both Tampa and Miami announced they are going to sign up a new cruise line and DCL has been negotiating with Port Canaveral re renewal and other Ports.

We have seen E.mails that DCL are unhappy with PC charges.

I'm hoping if this is the case they do a "straddled" release (i.e. spring and fall, but no summer). They did this once before, I believe in 2005.

I, and a lot of others from our cruise last month, are looking for October 2009.

The bummer will be if I move my Oct '08 to Oct '09, just to move it Aug '09 for a Special itinerary. :sad2: Although, if they hold from late-May on until the end of January, I won't have to worry about a douple move. :thumbsup2

We got the email to host the party. Don't think we'll be doing it though.

I do agree, I think DCL should learn from history nd release thongs in stages per Category of cruise, Spring 09 Wonder 3/4 say Dec 1st, Spring Magic 7 nights a few days later, then Fall Wonder another day and Magic fall another day and then in January the Magic summer ones.

There has been so much pressure on cruisers, on the phone and Internet, their own staff and also travel agents a staggered approach is very sensible.

Any REPO's i would suggest they sold them one at a time say one a day, not all together.

Missed this on my ketchup before, are you saying a change of home port ie to Tampa or Miami, or one of the standard cruise ports?

This thread is very popular and a lot has been discussed I know people find it hard to look back on posts to find what they want. So TO SUMMARIZE -what we know, from the posts on this thread.

One of the other talking points is the longer than usual dry dock for the magic in 2008.

2008 Dry-dock Plans
The Magic will be in dry-dock September 6-27, 2008.

Now some have mentioned including the Dispodacst team this longer dry-dock might be to assist with modifications to the pool areas for a possible Alaska trip.

DIS-PODCAST

Say Alaska Summer 2009
They also said the Wonder would do 3-4 nights and 7 night cruises in the Caribbean if the Magic goes on its travels.

DCL AGENTS ON BOARD

Say cruises will start to be released early December, and the ship will be closer to its home than the previous two years. Hint Bermuda but also various Caribbean ports mentioned.

RESPECTED TRAVEL AGENTS

Have sent e-mails saying Caribbean.

ALSO NEW. More t/a’s have said they are being invited onto the ships for a big announcement in early December.

CAPTAIN TOM

Said in the Med a strong hint for Northern Europe. This was mentioned again just recently on the Wonder.

RELEASE DATES

We are told first 2 weeks of December, not sure if all of 2009 or just the first part.

Historically they have usually have started releasing dates in November for the first part of the following year, say January to April standard 3/4 Wonder cruises, and standard Magic cruises for 7 nights.

We are overdue, conjecture; DCL is negotiating now with Port Canaveral, they are unhappy with costs and restrictions on the port calls to keep their pier exclusive to DCL. Miami port has said soon they will sign up a big cruise line, Would DCL move to Miami or Tampa, its this a reason for delay.

PAST YEARS
The Special summer cruises have come out later,

FOR 2005 May 5th 2004
FOR 2007 April 3rd 2006
FOR 2008 January 31st 2007.

The summer 2006 cruises were double dips in the Caribbean.

Front runners:-

Alaska
Caribbean special trips maybe Bermuda.

Outside runner

Europe but a lot of people have recently discounted the Med or Northern Europe now.

Fuel Prices

Will the rising fuel costs make cruises cost a lot more?

SO what are you recommended to do?

Well do not panic!

Standard cruises i.e. 3-4 nights Wonder and 7 night Magic ones will not have a problem. For any special cruises:-

Register with a specialist quality DCL Disney authorised travel agent, or keep you eyes on this board. There has always been an announcement and a tip off here first.

Dreams unlimited the sponsor of this board is an option.

You can book yourself direct with DCL by phone or website, but on ‘special cruises’ they have had long waits on telephones and the website has been under pressure.

Please do not instruct multiple travel agencies as in past years this has pushed up all the prices to all cruises supply demand and the cruises tier price system.

Release date time is often 8am but there sometimes has been a press launch at WDW or Disneyland and bookings opened up after that at 1pm EST.

Thank you so much Andrew for the nutshell. :thumbsup2 I just wanted to pop in this thread to see what is going on for 2009 and saw the 40+ pages :scared1:

May I ask you one question? I also received the email regarding Hosting a Disney Cruise Party. I had no idea what it was all about. Does this email have something to do with the 09 announcements? I just scanned it because I thought it was like a Creative Memories party.... buy all this cruise stuff we are selling and make scrap books :)

Now I can't find it :(

We are cruising with DCL on a Western Carribean cruise on April 19. Is it realistic to say that an onboard booking with discount for a possible 09 summer cruise in Alaska is not going to happen? If it is released before that date all the cabins will be gone. I should just try to book immediately when they come out.

I'm meaning switching the main Port (ie Canaveral) to Tampa or Miami.
I thought so, just for a moment I thought you had some news or rumor of ports changes ( other than home port):thumbsup2

My guess and other posters is YES it does link, as in 2007 the 'special Mexico and Repo cruises were released for sale on January 31st, being announced shortly before.

This party is just a few days before that date so too much coincidence for me!

So December maybe the release date of 'standard cruises', excluding summer Magic ones.

If and when they come out book there and then, they would be popular and the price would go up, IF, then in April you were on ship and it was cheaper, ( unlikely-most likely sold out) you could cancel and rebook then, so that way you are covered for both situations!:thumbsup2

I remember reading at one point that you can book first, and still get the 10% discount and OBC if you cruise afterwards. At least one DIS'er has said they have done this before. That is what I am planning to do - when the '09 dates come out, I will book ASAP and then confirm the booking when on board in Feb 2008 to get the discount and OBC added to the booking.

You can do this as long as the cruise you want to rebook on is not sold out.

I tried to this for the Aug repo cruise and was told I shouldn't as I would need to release the cruise then rebook it. In the time between, the cruise would probably be snapped up by a waitlist person.

Also, don't forget, you may end up paying more for the cruise. If the price has gone up since you first book, the increased price may wipe out any discount and OBC you may get.

On popular cruises that have sold out, is a really good point.:thumbsup2

Here is what I learned when we were on the Wonder Nov18-21. We booked a 7 day dummy date to be moved to 2009.

The TA(cast member) booking on ship said the 2009 dates will definately be out the 1st two weeks of Dec and would definately not be doing the Mediteranian or the Mexican Riveria then. She would not give any hint as to what the itinerary would be but did confirm what it would not be.

Here's hoping for Bermuda or Alaska!!!!!!
Also our wait staff said that they were going to convert all of the 4 nite Wonder trips to Double dips and do away with at sea days.- Two days at Castaway Cay -VS. 1 day and one sea day- My vote Double Dip -me!!!!!!

Well I'm with you on crossing my fingers for Bermuda or Atlanta... but I hope they don't turn all of the Wonder 4-days into double-dips - as that means no Palo brunch on the Wonder :(

How about just getting rid of Nassau and doing CC twice? :)
