June: The Coastal Discovery Museum and the Camera Club of Hilton Head will hoist “A Sense of Place” during May and June. Since moving to Honey Horn in 2007, the Museum has had an ongoing relationship with the Camera Club with many of its annual member exhibits presented on site. In addition, CCHHI members have assisted the museum with other history and natural history exhibits over the years. This year the two organizations have created an exhibit that focuses directly on the people, places, and things that make our Lowcountry region unique and beloved by residents and visitors alike.
“A Sense of Place” includes over 80 images from 31 different photographers. The entries were juried into the show and images were selected that connected to the mission of the Coastal Discovery Museum, “to inspire people to care for the Lowcountry.” CCHHI members submitted a beautiful collection of images that depict a variety of subject matters including historic buildings and cemeteries, the area’s natural history, Gullah culture, the seafood industry, and our various stunning landscapes.
An opening reception for this exhibition will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9th.
The museum is located at 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island SC and is open daily from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
A series of gallery talks will be delivered throughout the exhibit at the museum during the exhibition. They will be focused on one of the themes in the exhibit. Look for more information about these presentations at www.coastaldiscovery.org.
