When We Get to Heaven, We'll Hear "ALOHA!" - Update 10/17, Day 6

Hi there! I'm finally getting on the DIS after a horrific week at work. The consultant I work with on this project did little in terms of work while I was gone and I was swamped and working 7 - 7 almost everyday. And no time to wander over here during the day :)

Your photos are just gorgeous! I love the report. It was so nice to meet you guys. I was a little worried that you might think I was an oddball saying hi but I saw you guys and kept looking at you thinking that it was guitarob and TheNewMrsB. I finally told my husband that I thought I knew you from the boards and I figured by that point, you wondered why this woman was staring at you. I'm so glad I said hi and got to meet you two in person! And just a note for everyone that I happened to catch guitarob right after the Ohana dinner and he was in a pleasant state of heavenly, disney food satisfaction :thumbsup2 It made me wish that we had eaten there a second time on the trip but we all know that getting one ADR there is something to be happy about :)

Can't wait to hear how the rest of the trip went!

Oh, and what a nice anniversary gift and surprise! The floral arrangement looks gorgeous!

I agree with Mrs. B about the child on the floor of the bus and I likely would have felt the need to say somethingto the mother.

I love reading your report and look forward each day to the next installment.

Can I ask if you went to MNSSHP this year and if not, have you been before? I am thinking about trying it next year.

Great update! We've never gone to Wilderness Lodge. We were booked to stay there once, but decided to change it to, I think, Caribbean Beach that trip.

So, on Tuesday, you didn't happen to be at the bus stop when my wonderful DH and DD8 decided to drop all of our things as we were heading to pack up the car? I didn't even know it until I got to the car and they weren't right behind me. DH was none too happy.

We went to MK that day for DD1's first haircut which was great. Then, we surprised DD8 with lunch at Chef Mickey's. When we left MK, we told her that we were going to stop by Contemporary to see if they had my face wash and shave gel that she had forgotten to put in our bag Saturday morning. She kept asking about where we asked about it and I said that I thought we had to wait in this line. There were probably 20 people total ahead of us and we kept saying things like "Wow! This many people have left things in their room?"

She finally figured it out when we got to the stand and they gave us our pager. Of course, then we had to explain to our confused, logical 8-year-old that I had booked it a while ago and we had just surprised her since we had been talking all trip about people trying to do walk-ups and probably not getting into places because it was free dining busy.

:rotfl2:

Hey Tinkerbellie!! Sorry to hear about your crappy week! Glad to see you back!

Just wanted to say "hi"! I am enjoying your report and eagerly awaiting the remaining installments popcorn::

DH & I watched Hallowishes from the beach Tuesday night, and I thought I recognized you from the pictures you posted. But we were at the other end of the beach and I didn't want to scare you by running down the beach at you ;)

MissLiz - I think I saw your DH and younger daughter one day outside of the elevator when we left the lounge (assuming I was recalling correctly from the photo you posted). Which means we were probably in the lounge at the same time and didn't know it!

I'm glad everyone had a great trip!

No, we've never been there. I was thinking about it this year but I think it will be much more fun when we have kids. :) It's so cute seeing all the little guys in their costumes waiting for the monorail and boat!

:lmao: That is hilarious! Of course I was too busy being totally enthralled by the myriad of bugs and spiders hanging out on the light post that DH was setting the camera on. Sometimes I'm a child like that, what can I say?

Woah, woah, woah... I can't believe I am just finding this now!

Totally loving your report- makes me feel like I am still at the Poly.

I also love hearing about your experience at the Poly- sounds like you had the stay I was hoping for! (Including the surprise actually being delivered to the room...) Maybe the key is to stay CL?

You've also inspired me to start a whole new ADR wish list for our next trip.

Can't wait for more!!

I'm sorry about the lack of updates. I haven't abandoned this report, I just haven't been feeling too well. Hopefully I'll get going again tomorrow! :goodvibes

Hope you are feeling better SOON!
I was wondering, Is Mrs. B going to be writing a TR too???
I read her Pre-TR and it made me excited to hear more :)

On that note...... I Can't wait to hear more! I have never stayed at the POLY and am living vivariously through others until our FEB trip! :goodvibes

GET WELL SOON :goodvibes

Day 5 - 9/22/10

This morning started off with another early morning photo walk around the Polynesian. It was another cool morning, but the humidity crept up rather quickly. I got some pretty decent shots (Jupiter was very visible, and the stars were spectacular, sadly they don't look as cool in my scaled down photos here).

I then headed back to the room to get ready for breakfast at the Kona Café, where I had the Big Kahuna and Mrs. B. had Tonga Toast, and it was wonderful as usual. Our server then brought us out a couple of celebratory cupcakes for our Anniversary. Only in Disney World is it acceptable to have dessert with breakfast (ok, maybe not acceptable, but definitely doable).

We then took a walk over to the TTC and hopped on the monorail to Epcot to pick up where we left off the other day. We walked on to Test Track...

epcot_testtrack3.jpg

...and then over to see Captain E.O. which I vaguely remember seeing during its original run. I’m sure I enjoyed it much more then, but it was very nostalgic and a fun thing to see, if a bit cheesy.

epcot_eosign.jpg

After viewing the show we walked over to the World Showcase, and were surprised to find that we were there in time for rope drop which was definitely a first for us.

We walked over to Japan so that Mrs. B. could pick her pearl before the masses arrived. We were the first ones at the Pick a Pearl stand for the day and were able to take our time and look at all the oysters and allow Mrs. B. to pick the perfect one without being rushed.

Going on the disboard theory of picking the biggest, ugliest oyster she could find, she selected one. I do have to say that none of them really appeared bigger or uglier than any of the others. Oddly enough, I was looking at one as being “the one” and Mrs. B. also had her eye on the same one, so that was the one that she went with.

epcot_pearl1.jpg

After some ceremony the pearl was revealed and the drum was beaten.

epcot_pearl2.jpg

It turns out that we had our eye on a great oyster as the pearl that came out was a beautiful golden color and a rather large 7 ¼ mm.

epcot_pearl3.jpg

Mrs. B. looked over the settings and chose a beautiful white gold ring (with a little nudging from me) to have the pearl mounted on.

We toured the Mitsukoshi department store and took a few photos in Japan while waiting out the half hour it took to have the pearl mounted.

We then said good-bye to Japan as we made our way back over to France to burn off a few snack credits and some pocket money.

epcot_morocco.jpg

We arrived at the Boulangerie Patisserie and selected a ham and cheese croissant, a slice of cheesecake and a chocolate mousse. Mrs. B. waited out the line while I headed over to the little stand to grab us a couple of Grey Goose Lemonade Slushies and a seat by the water.

epcot_francesnacks.jpg

After eating we rode the Friendship boat back to the other side of the lagoon, did a little shopping at MouseGear, and slowly walked back to the monorail...

monorail_ttc.jpg

... for some quality time with a pool, a couple of beverages (Banana Cabana for me, Paradise Punch for Jen) and a nap.

After napping, we rode the launch over to the Magic Kingdom to catch the bus over to the Boardwalk for our dinner at the Flying Fish.

boardwalk.jpg

Upon our arrival we looked around the resort lobby for a bit, made our way over to check in for dinner a little early and then headed up to the bar upstairs to have a couple of drinks. The sun was mercilessly beating on the boardwalk and making it rather uncomfortable, so we really didn't do any of the resort touring that we had planned on. They didn’t have a very extensive menu at the bar so I had a Corona and Mrs. B. had a glass of wine.

After finishing our drinks, and deciding that we didn't feel like being in the lounge anymore (the sun was also beating right through a window onto the seat I was in) we decided to walk down to the Flying Fish. It was well past our reservation time and our buzzer hadn't gone off, so we felt the need to check up on it. We waited a little while longer and were finally seated.

Doesn't the guy in the center of this photo just look thrilled?

Our dinner was so so. The food was generally good, but not memorable. The service was abysmal. I’m not blaming our waiter (too much) but we were seated in a section with two big tips on either side of us (one was a party of 10 and the other was a couple on the Wine and Dine plan) so the courses were extremely slow in coming, and the refills on drinks were few and far in between (I tend to go through Cokes like crazy at dinner for some reason).

We did however receive a complimentary champagne toast as we were seated, which kept the tip from completely slipping out of our server’s grasp.

flyingfish_toast.jpg

Fittingly enough, my photos of the food are also mediocre, as the lighting where we were seated was rather dim. I started off with the Crab Cake which was actually really good.

flyingfish_crabcake.jpg

Mrs. B. had the, theeeee... (insert name of something she will fill in here as soon as she reads this).

flyingfish_mysteryapp.jpg

For an entrée I had the diver scallops (decent, but not great) and the Lemon, Parmigano and Herb Laced fries (that were very disappointing).

Mrs. B. had the (wow… I’m really bad at this tonight…)

flyingfish_fish.jpg

For dessert, I had the (I believe it was called) Chocolate Creation.

flyingfish_chocolate.jpg

Jen had the Banana Napoleon (YAY ME! I remembered!)

flyingfish_napoleon.jpg

Over all the food was pretty good, but nothing really jumped out at either one of us, and the Flying Fish will not be making it onto our “Must-Do” list, but I won’t rule it out either, maybe it was just an off night.

Our waiter did come over after dessert and asked us where we were from and what we thought of our "local NFL team's quarterback situation", in a clutch attempt to make conversation for a last minute save. Which, coincidentally, wasn't much different than Mr. Reid's clutch decision to pull Kolb and start Vick that week. There I go with another digression... ::Sigh:: At least he gets points for making an attempt.

To end our day we took the Friendship over to World Showcase to catch Illuminations. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to get to either of our preferred spots before the show began so we got kind of an awkward view with some trees blocking a lot of the aerial fireworks, but it was still very enjoyable (as Illuminations always is for me, it is my favorite thing to see while at Disney), and we got a close up view of the globe as it sat by the side waiting for its entrance into the show.

epcot_illuminations.jpg

After Illuminations, it was a slow walk over to the monorail and a ride back to the Polynesian to rest up for the next day.

Feel better.

Feel better!

I was just wondering yesterday where you had been. Hope you are feeling better! Can't wait to read more!

Feel better :( At least its now almost the weekend!

Thank you everyone!! I'm feeling a little better now. It seems the "cold" I keep mentioning in the TR turned into Bronchitis last week, and a mis-diagnosis (of "just allergies, try this...") as soon as we got home didn't help matters much. At least I managed to fight it off until we got home! :goodvibes

YIPEE! :yay: so glad to hear there's more to come.....LOVE reading your review and looking at your beautiful pics.
Hope you are feeling better SOON!
I was wondering, Is Mrs. B going to be writing a TR too???

GET WELL SOON :goodvibes

Thank you for the compliments and well wishes!

I believe Mrs. B. will be doing a more in-depth food report soon!

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well and hopefully you're close to being fully recovered.

Regardless...besides forgetting the names of dishes ...it's still an enjoyable TR and again LOVELY pics! :woohoo:

I am really enjoying you TR. We will be at the Poly in Nov and can't wait. You report makes me even more excited!:yay:
