Got to thinking today...I haven't been in any kind of accident since 1997. It was a fender bender. Guess I'm due!!

You?

1987... Knock on wood!

August 2004 and I've had HORRIBLE car phobia ever since. I do fair when I'm driving myself though I get VERY nervous. If anyone else is driving I MUST TAKE A XANAX and distract myself either by looking down or reading a book.

My sister and I were on our way to drop the kids with their Grandma before flying out to the west coast. I was lying all the way back in the passenger seat resting my head against the door jamb. I told my sister I wanted a diet pepsi and some minutes later she pulled off the highway and asked me to help her find the gas station to get gas and my pepsi. I put my seat upright. Less than 30 seconds later we were hit T-bone EXACTLY where my head was  Everyone was fine, no injuries or anything and the other driver was sober, just made a HUGE mistake.

Problem came when the state patrolman said if I'd still been laying back my head would have been crushed and I'd have been dead. :scared1: WHY OH WHY DO THEY SAY THESE THINGS???? I've been terrified ever since :sad2:

Oct.2 2009. We could not stop on a orange light in the pouring rain and a Hummer turned in front of us. Lucky for seatbelts, I only had rib and lung damage. But I just had stitches removed that morning from my knee from a knee scope two weeks before. I am scared to be on the road still and I don't drive. We are fighting the ticket, DH was charged with careless but the court date isn't untill April 16 next year.

January 1999. It involved mine and 3 other cars and turned me into a pretty cautious driver after that. I hope to never be involved in a car accident again, God willing!

Last one was September 2000. I was waiting at the entrance/exit of my company, trying to get out onto the main road, when another car came flying down the road. The driver actually swerved slightly into the entry, nicking my front bumper on the corner, then scraping along the front because she was going too fast to stop. She tried to say I hit her...I was at a complete stop and I was behind the curbing bordering the main road; no way I could have hit her.

My first accident was in January 1996. I came to a four-way stop-sign intersection. I stopped. A woman in a green minivan was approaching the sign to my left, but had not stopped. I proceeded through; she sped up, went through on her side, and hit me on the rear driver's side panel. She screamed at me until the police arrived, then screamed at them that there's no way she didn't stop, since she was only going 2 miles per hour (to which the officer said, "If you were going 2 miles an hour, you weren't stopped"). Then she said I hit her. Let's see, my rear bumper is torn, there's a huge dent and green paint on the REAR panel of my car, white paint on the FRONT of your car...what, did I throw the car into reverse while you were "stopped?" Luckily, I had a witness who stayed and gave the police a statement to back me up.

Second one was in March of 1996...2 weeks after I finally was able to have the car fixed from the January accident (the other driver's insurance kept making excuses; when I caught them in an outright lie, they paid up). I was the third car in line at a traffic light. It turned green, so we went through. As I entered the intersection, this young kid who'd just had his license for 2 months plowed into me from the left. You guessed it...rear driver's side panel and rear bumper, the ones I'd just had fixed. He told the police that he needed to get home, he couldn't stop for his red light, and sped up to try to make it through. I just happened to "get in the way." I shouldn't have given him my information...his stepfather called my mother and screamed at her, how dare I call the police (which I didn't...the officer just showed up; either someone else witnessed it and called, or the officer came by while on patrol), demanded to see the damage and said that it was probably already there...then he showed up later that night at the house and tried to break into our garage!

Late last March I was rear-ended at a traffic light in heavy traffic. No injuries and insurance company handled all of the interaction with the other party.

Had a little scrape back in 1988. I was taught to drive by a cop (my dad) and he taught me how to drive very defensively. Basically, you assume everyone else on the road is a) drunk, b) crazy and c) will do exactly the opposite of what they should do. Give 'em space and let 'em go terrorize someone else!

Yikes, if you think you're due, what about me!? ;) My one and only car accident was in 1984.

I've never been in a car accident and I'll be 30 this year. I guess that's good. I've never even been pulled over, had a ticket or parking ticket either.

A few weeks ago on my husband's bday (Nov 21st). Red light: I stopped, lady behind me stopped, guy behind her didn't stop. It pushed me out into the intersection, but, fortunately, it was clear when it happened. I have to say the police, both insurance companies (I opted to open the claim through mine and let them deal with his), and the body shop were great; I had my car back in pre-accident condition within a week, and his insurance reimbursed my deductable within 2 weeks. Impressed the heck out of me! lol

I haven't had one yet. TONS of close calls though.

Its helped that the speed enforcement cameras are installed though.

eta: most of my close calls happened on the freeways where people are driving out of control!

I accidently backed up into a car in the grocery lot in 2004, but I really don't count that one (the insurance company does though:confused3).

I was T-boned in 2000 by a young driver hung over and or still drunk from the night before. I did 3 360's and they found my glasses in the trunk of the car. I ended up on the other side of the road facing the wrong way. It was at the end of my street. It was the beginning of the end with my health, I have been disabled ever since. I have to go the other way when driving in my neighborhood and never use that intersection.

About two years ago. We were going thru a construction zone when the flagman unexpectedly flipped the sign to stop. Everyone locked their brakes.

Luckily I was maintaining the two second gap and able to stop in time. The guy behind me was tailgating and rear ended me.

Also what amazed me one time while I was waiting at a stop light during rush hour I watched a woman on the cell phone come across the intersection from the left and drive right into the car in front of her which was stopped after the intersection due to traffic. She never even hit the brakes. Just drove right into the car.

This thread got me thinking and I guess I have been in a few. In 1996, two days after I got my license I backed out of a parking spot the wrong way and into a truck in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot. The man felt bad for me and was super nice! He actually worked on cars for a living. He fixed the car for free.

In college I was driving my friends car :headache: on a four lane road. Another driver merged into me. I called the police and the man's insurance ended up covering it, but it was the end of our friendship. She had to tell her parents and they were mad she let someone else drive her car. She expected that I would just pay for the repairs so her parents would not have deal with the other guy's insurance and this find out about it.

Another time in college I was backing up out of a parking spot and was at the point where I was out of the parking spot and was putting my car into drive from reverse and another car started to back out of their parking spot right into me! Her insurance paid that one.

And just Monday I was almost in an accident..a very bad one. I was driving straight down a main road when all of a sudden a HUGE white suv tried to take a left onto the main road into my lane. He either didn't see me or didn't care because he kept going. I ended up having to swerve to avoid getting hit and ended up jumping the curb and in someone's lawn. He just shrugged his shoulders at me like it was my fault and took off! My car was fine but I was shaking! Oddly enough yesterday I was taking a left onto the main road and a car was flashing his lights at me, stopped next to me and was motioning for me to roll my window down. It was a man who had seen what happened the day before. He asked "Were you the one that jerk ran off the road?" Thank goodness I reacted so quickly other wise it would have been a mess!

Turning 30 and never been in an accident as a driver. A few years ago while my hubby was driving someones bike fell of their car and hit us and a bunch of other drivers on the highway.

Exactly 1 week ago, almost to the minute. The other driver lost control, hit me head on, sitting here at work with a broken arm, feeling very frustrated, typing with one hand, thanking God for my sturdy suv which was paid off, now totalled, so pretty cranky, but glad to be alive.
