I live in apartment building that I'm pretty sure was built in the 1970's. However, the house I grew up in was built in the 1880's. I miss that house a lot.
The one I'm in now was built in the 50's, I think. The one I grew up in was over a hundred years old. It was the first house in the area. A house down the street that always sort of looked like a barn, we found out was a barn, it belonged to the previous owners of our house. There was nothing but cornfields around it. And an airport nearby. A couple ladies that lived there back then came to visit one day.
We built in 1998. I would love to have an old house...I don't know why. I guess I just love the character and craftsmanship you see. I loved the house I lived in when I was 4-5 years old. I remember it so well. I loved the doors, the stairs, the windows, the floors...everything was just so pretty. One of these days I will have my old house!!
I bought my house about four years ago, it was built in 1907. It has beautiful woodwork. Sometimes I wonder if I made the correct choice buying something so old, but it is charming. I have three small children and am holding off on major work until they are older can give the house more attention.
1947. Not only is it older than I am, it's older than my mother! I love it, though. It has so much more character than many newer homes I've seen. But then, newer homes are new and don't require as much maintenance and repair, most definatly a trade off!
