When vacation interrupts your training plan?

Isn't that the wrong way to look at life. I know there are others out there that know what I mean.;) Here is the situation. I will be at Disney in the midst of training for the TOT 10Miler. Poor me, I know. Looking at my plan, I will need to change the scheduled long runs around. That's not a big deal. Should I try and do the minimum, three, runs that week? Then do no form of exercise the other days. Or, should I get power walking in on the non-run days? My usually routine is six days of working out. Should I skip exercise all together, as I am on vacation? What would you do? The park plans include maybe one day at a park and one day at a waterpark.

We are not into strict scheduling for training so I can't give any advice regarding your staying with plan or modifying it but we don't let our WDW-FW vacations interrupt our training. We still get up early, 5:00AM to hit the road. Neat part about doing so at FW would be the number of deer, bunny rabbits, armadillo and other creatures we come upon.

Last visit was our 39th wedding anniversary in the beginning of June. Arrived on a Friday at 7:30AM and by 9:00AM I was out in the rain for a 14 mile training walk/jog/run. Also got out 5:00AM Sat. and Sun.

Looking forward to the ToT 10 miler. :thumbsup2

I know where your comming from. I would recommend that you DO NOT skip exercise all together and at a minimum get your runs in. Being at Disney you can always put in miles just by walking around the parks which you will probably do anyway. I would suggest you consider some cross training exercise which should always be a part of your training. Swim laps at the pool, visit the gym if your hotel/resort has one or workout in your room. All you need is 30-45 minutes of cross training if you are unable to get your runs in.

Good luck.

I'm having the same issue. My biggest run is in the middle of my Christmas vacation at Disney. I'm leaning towards a shorter run in the morning, hitting the parks, then getting another run in that night.

I'm very good at using what is around me to step up, run stairs, tricep dips etc. I can do walking lunges and lateral work, also. I'm sure I will get my running in. I've been in training for a race on a prior Disney trip and I got my runs in. Even last year my DH and I ran at POP. Without my exercise I might go crazy.

We recently returned from a 26 day road trip and I needed to keep up my training. I used hotel fitness rooms, pools and hiking for cross-training. I got up early or ran late to get my runs in. They were shorter (3-8k rather than my usual 5-11k) but under more intense weather conditions and high elevation.

I sure am glad I kept at it because I didn't lose any ground and that sure would have sucked if I had lost ground.

I also splurged on some foods and knowing that I was exercising regularly meant that I was still on target.

Good luck!

OP, I was just working on my WDW trip schedule last night, fretting about how to fit in my TOT training! I just got back from a week away in NC and mostly kept up my training there: I skipped one short run, but was hiking too much to add a run in.

WDW is different. We'll be in a hotel, not a house, without a second adult, so I have my DS to consider. And I get up too early every day in real life - I need to sleep in some on my vacation... it's bad enough we'll have to be up early quite a bit to make RD; I don't want to take up the mornings we don't have to be up early with running. But it's brutal down here in FL, so if I'm to run outdoors, it has to be early morning or late evening. So my plan for WDW is this:

1. I'm doing the 7-miler I'm supposed to do there a week ahead, instead. That way, if I can't go long while at WDW, it's already in. I'll still do a long run, but it may be more like 5 miles to save time. I wasn't looking forward to 8+ laps around the EP resorts, anyway. :rotfl:

2. I'll fit in short runs when and if I can, maybe by using the treadmill.

3. Cross-training days will happen, for sure, since those are yoga, pilates and ballet workouts I can easily do in the room.

4. If the short runs don't happen, I'll take comfort in knowing that I'll be walking a ton and swimming every day. :thumbsup2

My daughter is training for her cross country team in H.S. Does anyone know what time of day would be the most populated to run at POR? Since neither my husband or myself could possibly keep up with my teenage daughter, I would prefer that she run during the morning and when there are people around. Yes, I am a nervous mom. ::yes::
