When traveling to Aulani, what airline do you fly with?

I was looking at flights through American and United, they seem really expensive though, I was just wondering what airlines everyone else flies with?

Thanks!

When I fly to HI (including this trip to Aulani in July), I always use Hawaiian Airlines. I prefer their planes, and the flights are the lowest from where we depart (Sacramento, CA).

We've flown:

American
US Airways
United
Delta
Hawaiian

Alaska Airlines seems to have decent rates, but I don't know if I like their planes

I always fly Delta because I have FFM with them and I can do the trip with only one layover if I book early enough. In my experience, they usually have the lowest fairs when I book 11 months out. To see what prices are out there, you may want to visit cheaptickets.com. They will list what the costs are for different carriers once you put in your travel dates. If you can get a cheap flight to LAX or other California airport, you might also try pricing the flight to HNL from there.

We use Hawaiian because we have a credit card with reward miles on it. I like the planes and staff too and would still use them regardless of our reward miles.

We live in Seattle and fly Alaska. I have the Alaska Airlines visa, so I get a $99 companion voucher every year. When we go to Aulani (it's our home property, so we are there every year now), we pay for one ticket, pick one up on the companion fare, and get the other with miles.

With all that said, I think this will be our last trip on Alaska. Hawaiian air seems to have a better schedule with more flights. Right now the earliest flight on Alaska leaves at 10:30 and gets us to the island at 3:00. Hawaiian would get us there earlier. They also seem to offer more on their flights than Alaska.

Here is a link everyone may be interested in for down the line.... It is about Southwest Airlines and their future of flying to Hawaii. Go to Www.beatofhawaii.com then look at Southwest Hawaii.

We are going in July and flying united from New Jersey. Non stop both ways.

That would be amazing coming from a west-coaster! Although SWA probably doesn't come with the same services Hawaiian does, but at least prices might go down!

I did some reasearch and found that it may be cheaper to buy a ticket to the West Coast, then buy a seperate ticket from there to Honolulu.

To be honest for us we go with whoever has the cheapest direct flight out of YVR, BLI or SEA.

That's what we are doing in March for our extended spring break trip. Houston to Los Angeles on Southwest (2 days at Disneyland), Los Angeles to Honolulu on Hawaiian (on Oahu a week, including 5 days at Aulani), Honolulu to San Diego on Hawaiian (2 days doing Legoland and the San Diego Zoo), and San Diego to Houston on Southwest.

This is considerably cheaper (almost half price!) than the direct flights available to us on United. We're staying at VGC on points, and the activities and the rest of our lodging come to about the same as the amount we're saving. So really, we're not saving money by doing it this way, but we're getting 4 days in California for the amount we thought we were spending on our Hawaii trip.

We're traveling with a 3 and a 9 year old, and we thought it would be easier to break up the trip rather than try the one very long flight. This also keeps us from having to do an all night flight.

We haven't done this trip yet, so it may not work as well as we're hoping it will, but this is what we've planned.

I was looking at flights and Allegiant to Honolulu was the absolute cheapest I could Find. $239 one way.

They are a killer with baggage fees though.....

I booked us in separate legs (mostly because we're stopping at DL for a few nights on the way) and also found it to be just as cost effective as a round trip. Allegiant was only $203 a few days ago from LAX for the day we need in August. It's tempting, because even with their bag fees ($25 per carryon + $35 per checked bag + $50 for over 40 Lbs + $14 seat assignment + $13 meal @ $340 with fees they are about $160 cheaper than Hawaiian which is the next cheapest). I have never used them so I did a search for reviews on them earlier this week. I was not impressed with what I read tho. (The majority of the reviewers gave them 1's or 2's out of 10.) They also don't fly the route every day and on the days that they DO fly they only have 1 flight per day. I am worried about the "what if" they change their flight schedule. I don't want to risk not having another flight option on the same day that we need to fly. August is a long time away and many airlines DO change their schedules. Here's the website I was looking at: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/allegiant.htm

I got an email from Hawaiian yesterday (we've used them inter-island before) and they're adding a new "comfort" level beginning in August with an extra 5" of legroom. THAT is also tempting (it was only $60 more pp). Even at that price they rivaled Delta's price.

To the OP - I have flown United, Delta and American to / from the mainland & HNL before. They all pretty much suck if you're in coach. We are using Alaska Air this August home from Maui to DC (via Portland). I hear good things about them so we shall see. Their price was SIGNIFCANTLY cheaper than anybody else on that particular route and they offered 1 option to get it done in about 12 1/2 hours with only 1 stop. You really have to watch the total flight duration times - Alaska Air has an option to GET us from LAX to HNL for a lesser price than Hawaiian BUT it has 2 stops and takes 22 hours!!:rotfl:

I am kinda tempted to book the comfort seats on Hawaiian since they're essentially the same price as Delta's coach seats. The airline gets super good reviews in all of the travel magazines & websites and we've never had a problem with them on our inter-island flights…I don't think I'm going to see a one-way fare between LAX and HNL for under $400 (other than Allegiant) any time soon. I think those days are gone.

ALLLL of the prices on ALLLL of the airlines are nearly double what they were last year at this time for August so I'm having a hard time deciding what to book….

Tell it like it is, Annie!! lol:rotfl: I just love reading your posts!

Does anyone know of a website that would tell which airlines fly DIRECT out of which cities? It takes a LOT of work to try to figure it out. The suggestions on this thread, of breaking it up with other side trips, may be the way to go. Thanks all!

You can probably do a search with the Airline Matrix website - specify no stops….

OK, I've had ENOUGH of this crazy #%&$()!#$%% winter!! I just got another Winter Storm Watch Alert message from the NWS for the possibility of 5 more inches of snow Sun-Mon so I talked to DH and he said BOOK THE FLIGHTS!!:rotfl: NOT messing around with this Allegiant Air stuff….went for the Hawaiian Airlines Extra Comfort seating. It was literally only $2 more pp than Delta's Coach seat. I sure hope I can tell we have an extra 5" of legroom!!

(FYI for anyone else considering that as an option the planes they're using for these flights have 2 seats, aisle, 4 seats in the middle, aisle and then 2 seats. These extra comfort seats are only available on rows 11, 12 and 13 and then there were 2 other misc. seats and 1 more EXIT row of them back on row 30-something. So there are not a lot of them available. But it's a 5 1/2 hr. flight so hopefully worth the extra $60. It's the closest thing we'll ever have to first class.:rolleyes1)

It may be 6 months away but at least I have everything booked now and can keep that in mind tomorrow night when the weather turns nasty yet again. Maybe I should wear a Hawaiian shirt to the superbowl party we're going to?! :lmao:

We are booked with Alaska Air and depart Seattle on August 3rd and arrive in Hawaii at noon. Just thought I'd tell you since it sounds like they've possibly added flights since you've booked. Hoping we will like Alaska Air. Heard the food isn't the greatest but great other than that??
