when to tell our kids?

Our last trip to Disney was in Sept. 2003 with our sons, who were 2 1/2 and almost 4. The trip was a little difficult, they had a hard time adjusting, especially the 2 year old. They didn't want to try rides we knew they would like, and refused to go to any shows! We were there for a week and they eventually warmed up to almost everything (the last day, of course!). Now, they are 5 and almost 4 and get excited when we talk about Disney, but my DH and I are very anxious about our upcoming trip in 3 weeks. I really think they will do fine if we as long as we stick to what they are comfortable with. As our 3 1/2 year old says, "as long as we only go on rides I like!" Anyway, the question is when should we tell them we are going? Should we wait till last minute so they don't have time to think about it too much? Or should we tell them soon so we can prepare them and talk it up? My DH and I feel like whatever we do could backfire! What if we tell then and the 3 year old says he doesn't want to go? But if we spring it on them, that might freak the young one out! Obviously I'm more concerned about the 3 1/2 year old. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Since they have had a hard time adjusting in the past i think they would be happier prepared. Show them pictures from the last trip, the kids guidebook with pictures, the WDW website. Really play up the familiarity of everything. Ex. "This carousel is like the one at the mall that you've ridden", "oh, you really liked this last time" "The show is from the movie you love."
As for them saying they don't want to go, just say you have to, it is already paid for.
You're the Mom!

I always say, tell them as soon as possible. The positive/negative threat/bribe factor needs to be in place as long as possible.

Hi! :wave2:

I think you should tell them As Soon As Possible. :cool1:
The best part of it all is the anticipation of the trip. Just thinking that they will be headed to Disney World soon - is the best feeling ever!

Have a great time!

You should definatley tell them now. Since my dd5 couldn't really understand how long it would be until we left for wdw - I made a paper chain made from disney paper, every day she would remove a link from the chain and she knew she was one day closer to going away. Every day she would count the days left and was more involved and excited that way. Have fun!
