When to start planning?

We're WDW regulars, who only get to Disneyland once every 5 years or so. Our last trip was 2017, and we're planning to go this September. When would you start planning? I know things aren't crazy early like WDW but was curious around when we should get our hotel (hoping to stay at Disneyland hotel) and set up tickets. Thanks!

If you're going on a high traffic weekend like Labor Day, it would make sense to get your hotel booked. As far as buying tickets and setting up park reservations, you have a few months before you can do that.

Mousesavers has info on discounts for the Disney Hotels.

For a place to stay on Harbor, I found the earlier you book the better the rate.
If you check often and the rate goes down then I call and ask for a rate adjustment

Book room 9 to 12 months out.
Wait for an airfare sale to book flights.
Buy park tickets when reservations can be booked, 90days out.
Dining reservations at the 60 day mark. Keep watching if Disney is late in opening the reservation window.

The 2022 Calendar of Events & School Breaks and DLR might give you an idea of what’s happening during September. There is generally a thread for Halloween details.

If you are there during one of the Halloween Parties you might want to get tickets.

Plus note the host park will close early to those without a Party Ticket.

This thread on Fishing for Lightening Lane Passes might help to maximize things for you. I wish I had known about this thread when I was there last week. I would have liked to put it to the test!
