When to start collecting FP?

We will be going in September, anticipating park hours are going to be 10am-8pm.

What time should we start collecting FP?

Here's what I'm thinking:
Fantasyland during the first hour
Toon town when it opens at 11am
Start collecting FP at noon?

How long can we expect Fastpasses to last before running out? DS is still too short for Indy, and Star Tours makes us sick, so we really are only needing FP for Splash and Space.

Well... you can't collect too many considering you can only get one after the hour indicated on the FP has expired or passed... But there's a thread on here somewhere about how to maximize FPs in Disneyland.

I saw the one from Hydroguy talking about maximizing FP during busy season, but I hadn't read anything about what to expect during "low" season (if there is such a thing anymore lol).

If you don't collect until noon I think it's fair to say you'll have to wait a couple of hours for your return window (?) and if it's hot, longer for Splash. What will you do during this time? I would sent somebody over to get a fp maybe for Space when you are in FL, at least to check the return time available. What about BTMR?

We send a runner to get FPs immediately at park opening. And then set an alarm the next time we are eligible for another. That's really the best way to do it. Hydroguy explains it all in his thread. Autopia offers a FP, as well as BTMRR.........

Thanks for the link Hydroguy! Was that during low season? I see how you mention FP still available at 3pm. Is that about when we might expect the FP to run out?

No, it was high season when parks open at 8AM as discussed in the link. :)

To be honest, you don't really need to be all fast pass crazy in September other then weekends. We walked on pretty much all rides with maybe the longest wait time being 25min later on in the day for the bigger coasters. So easy going that month. Great choice!

So we will be ok on a Monday (July 21) if we wait to get a RSR FP until after we ride TSMM? It's an EE day but we don't have EE.

Good reading with the link to maximize. Thanks.
Does the window of a fastpass relate to a ride breaking down to use the fastpass later apply "precisely" with the closed times? Are the cast members memorizing all the break-down times for an attraction? Curious to maximize even further that way

Sort of. If a ride is down before your window there is no way for you to know that it came back up. I think there is discretion from the CM. But since you have to use the FP in your window you will have to go to the ride and then you will see if it is closed.

If you go during your window and the ride is open, but was closed 2 hours ago, I do not think that is enough reason for you to miss your window. You might try that line of argument with a CM and they may accept it or not.
