We are staying first week in August (booked online) at the Fort. When and how can we request a loop? First time staying on property and first time at Disney World for family, although we have been to Disneyland several times and my husband have both been there when we were younger, our sons (17 and 15) have never been. We usually go to Universal when in Fla. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The best way to request a loop is to fax a request about 5 days before your scheduled arrival. Here is a form most people use:

The fax# for the Fort is:407-824-3508

Date:

TO: Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground Site Assigner

FROM: Name
Address

SUBJECT: Site Request for Month xx - xx

RE: Reservation # xxxxxxxx

I am really looking forward to my stay at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground and am writing about campsite requests. I do understand that these are only requests and cannot be guaranteed.

If possible, I would like a site in Loop xxxx with a site that will accomodate the following: (list your "stuff" here) and near (whatever you want to be near).

Thanks so much for your help, and once again I’m really looking forward to my visit to Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx or by email at xxx@xxx.xxx

Sincerely,

Your name here

My first question would be why are you requesting a specific loop? You say this is your first time, so what is the special request you have?

The folks who answer the phone (i.e. reservations cast members) have differing levels of expertise regarding Fort Wilderness. Think about it, there are tens of thousands of Disney hotel rooms fitting into a few categories such as Value, Moderate and Deluxe and most rooms, no mater what property have similar size rooms, room capacities and rules regarding the room. So, the reservations cast members have most of the information regarding rooms in their head. Except for the exceptional reservations cast members, for Fort Wilderness they usually read what is on the screen in front of them. You may need to guide them with your reservation as you may actually know more about the campground then they do. At the very least, make sure they note the following things in the comments for your reservation:

* Type of camping unit (i.e. trailer, tent, motorhome/coach etc.)
* Length of your entire rig including tow vehicles and toads
* Number/location of all awnings
* Number/location of all slides
* Let them know if you are bringing pets

With this information the site assigner will be able to pick an available site that fits your specific rig.

When making reservations you can ask to be assigned to a specific loop, and they will even note a specific favorite site, but remember nothing is guaranteed! While I could give specific instructions, I would just recommend reading one of the best articles I have found regarding site/room requests is "Faxing Your Room Preferences To Your Disney Hotel" by Jack Marshall. This and other great information is found on the All Ears Net/Walt Disney World Information Guide.

Now, with that said I will give you my personal opinion. Make your site selection known when you make your reservation so they can note it on your reservation. You are much better off requesting the things you like about the site/loop rather than the site/loop itself. For example, if you like the site because it is near a comfort station, then request that, if you like it because it is in the back of the loop and is quieter request that. The problem with asking for a specific site/loop is that the site assigners really don't know why you wanted that site/loop. If your request is not available they really don't know what you might find as a comparable site.

I just reread my original post and realized I left out that we are staying in the cabins. We don't have young children so walking distance isn't an issue, know a basic plan for the week and what we want to do at the Fort etc.Plus I've been reading all the helpful hints on the boards and researching (hubby calls it obsessing) so even though it is our 1st time there I think I may know what areas would work best for my family. Thanks for the tips. Appreciate the info

Have a grand time. And try not to obsess too much. :surfweb: ;)

I'm with you, LMF. Obsessing was half the fun of our first trip.:thumbsup2

I sent a fax request about 5 days before we were due to arrive. I included that we wanted to be near the Meadows area because my husband is disabled. Because I included that info, they also put us near the comfort station. This was such a blessing!

Hope your first trip is as "magical" as ours was! pixiedust:

I would definitely fax your request 5 days before arrival, but I would also call and have it added to your reservations. You can go to the google earth link and look at the loops and decide what loop you would prefer. Have a great time. We will be at The Fort in September for our daughters wedding and again in December. It really is a magical place to be.
